We can’t help but admire role models when they defend cannabis.

Case in point: Paris Jackson, who just publicized her pot use. Even though it ruffled a few feathers especially among her fans, the Michael Jackson’s 19-year-old daughter turned to Instagram stories and Twitter to document her pot session by showing a large bud on social media.

Paris is originally from California, which legalized recreational cannabis use just this January. Naturally, this didn’t go without criticism. Some said that Paris’ use of cannabis was setting a bad example for her fans, especially the younger ones. She was also accused of using cannabis as a way of getting attention.

However, the actress handled all the criticism with grace. She responded with tweets saying, “I think I’m doing pretty OK considering the circumstances.” She also replied to another follower by saying that she found her video documenting her cannabis use as “funny”.

Paris came in the defense of cannabis, referring to it as “amazing organic medicine” and “incredible medical tool.”

On the other hand, many of her fans also supported her cannabis use. A fan even tweeted, “Paris, don’t let anyone tell you what to do. Please invite me for your next party let’s be friends.”

Paris also defended the fact that she chose a natural drug, instead of drugs manufactured in pharmaceutical companies. “Try googling “narcotics” “big pharma” and then google “cbd” then get back to me, I’ll be sitting here eating granola and watching Scooby Doo,” she says. Of course, by CBD she’s referring to cannabidiol, one of the most powerful healing cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, and one that doesn’t have a psychoactive high.

“I know of a few parents that actually rely on this amazing organic medicine to keep their children alive since the alternative pharmaceutical drugs that doctors were shoving down their throats was basically killing the poor little ones,” Paris says. “But hey, to each his own.”

Sometime in February this year, Paris was spotted at a cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles. Paparazzi had a field day snapping her as she was leaving a dispensary holding a paper bag.

Paris is the only daughter of the King of Pop, born in 1998 and raised by Michael Jackson alongside her two brothers on the famous Neverland Ranch. Rumors have it that Paris and her siblings wore masks when they were younger to hide their faces in an attempt to protect their privacy and ensure safety since their father had reached massive levels of fame. When Michael Jackson passed away in 2009, Paris eventually disappeared from the public save for a few appearances such as in 2010 when she was featured on Oprah Winfrey, with her 2 brothers.

Paris has made a name for herself; in recent years she has worked as an actress, model, musician, and an activist. She is slowly making it back into the public eye.

Last year, she was featured on an interview with Rolling Stone where she claimed to be sober after admitting an addiction to drugs, including antidepressants. In the exclusive interview, Paris discussed how she had a supportive, loving relationship with her father while divulging private details on her life.

She told Rolling Stone that she was solely raised by Michael Jackson, but that she didn’t meet her biological mother Debbie Rowe until after the death of her father. She also disclosed some of her personal hardships such as the fact that she was the victim of cyberbullying, that she had a history of harming herself, and that she survived sexual assault. Paris admitted to attempting suicide three times, but that she still constantly battles with depression and anxiety but isn’t taking any medication for it – could this be why she’s turning to cannabis as well?

In another exclusive interview with Teen Vogue in 2017, she discussed how she was using her fame for a cause, as she is passionate about human rights and environmentalism. She was also featured as a speaker at the Los Angeles Women’s March.

Her mother Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. Paparazzi snapped up photos of Paris while she went with her mom to chemotherapy treatments, and shared a video through her Twitter account saying that cannabis may be used to treat cancer.
