Weed Of The Future: Canada Develops Odorless Pot

Getting high discreetly has always been one (of the many) things desirable about the rise of vape pens.

The smell of cannabis is, for many, a glorious odor, tainted with the idea of a beautiful stoned state. But that unfortunately isn’t the same sentiment shared by most in the population, especially people present in your awkward family dinners or at the workplace, if you want to join in stoned or even just bringing weed in your pocket or bag.

Whether you’re going to the bank for an errand, visiting your in-laws, or have a meeting with your boss, the need to hide the stench of weed is becoming an increasing concern especially as cannabis becomes more widely available due to legalization.

Stoners have had to come up with creative ways to hide the smell of weed: using a doob tube, air purifier, or having to face the inconvenience of going outside just to toke is one of the many ways people hide the smell of weed.

Then there’s also the problem of weed, whose smell tends to stick to the hair, skin, and clothing. Taking a shower and changing your clothes may be the best option to get rid of the odor, but let’s face it, we don’t always have time or the right opportunity to do so especially when we aren’t at home.

Edibles and oils are great too, but what if you just want the same high you get from smoking?

Well, odorless pot may very well be in our near future, thanks to Canada.

Ontario-based company CannabCo Pharmaceutical Corp just sent out a news release this week stating that they have come up with the technology necessary for eliminating that distinct pot smell emitted by cannabis when smoked or stored.

“A number of users, and people that are around cannabis smokers, complain about the smell, especially in enclosed areas, condos and apartments, and this technology addresses those concerns,” writes CannabCo CEO and President Mark Pellicane in the news release.

They also said that they are working with an unnamed provider who will be executing the anti-odor technology. They intend to release not just one product but a range of many that will cater to both recreational and medical consumers. CannabCo’s PureCann technology is touted as a “global first”, which they claim will help reducing the odor of cannabis during combustion. Smell should be “virtually undetectable” even when it is in storage.

For consumers, another benefit is that the product will no longer be as harsh when smoked, and reduces the weed hangover that many of us tend to experience.

“There are no third-party gadgets, or devices on the part of the user. The end result is pure cannabis that doesn’t smell,” says Pellicane. “A woman can carry cannabis in her purse without having the odor concentrated or leaking out in her handbag.”

The product is also fully compliant based n GMP standards. “Imagine someone going outside for a break during the day, having their afternoon cannabis and coming back without any odour attached to their clothing or coat,” explains Pellicane.

“Over the last two years we've observed product being processed with the system and we were given the opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions for the refinement of the process. We have been incredibly pleased with the results" said Novak.  "In using this technology CannabCo will be able to produce a wide variety of products currently not in the marketplace, addressing a key market segment that currently does not exist."

To get there, CannabCo is working on coming up with the funds needed while building their pilot facility located in Brampton, Ontario. Health Canada has already issued them a Confirmation of Readiness notification for their pending pot license.

Aside from the PureCann technology to grow odorless cannabis, CannabCo is also utilizing a system known as Phoenix, which is intended to reduce production costs, down to just 50 cents a gram. They intend to allocate some of their grown cannabis to the PureCann products.

Hopeflly, CannabCo’s products will be released sooner than later. This is technology we can all get behind, at least until more people are accepting towards the smell of weed.
