Since the 2018 Farm Bill, which made hemp legal in the United States, the CBD (Cannabidiol) market blew up. In 2019, the global cannabidiol market size was estimated at $7.1 billion, expected to hit $9.3 billion sometime in 2020, and forecasted to reach upwards of $23.6 billion by 2025. It’s safe to say that CBD definitely hit a boom and it has yet to peak. With this legalization of hemp, Delta 8 THC has also become a very popular cannabinoid as well but since it is a market that is still in its infancy, there hasn’t been any market forecasts released just yet.

No matter what analysts forecasts are for the market, we know very well that the Delta-8 THC market is on an upward spiral to success. However, that leaves many people wondering which route is the best and is CBD better than Delta-8 THC.

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 THC is one of the 100+ cannabinoids in hemp. Processors extract and do their processes to concentrate it since it only exists naturally in small percentages within the Hemp. Like other cannabinoids, it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system to bring on its psychotropic effects. So keeping in mind the difference in the natural quantities of Delta 8 in hemp; but when concentrated it interacts with the nervous system similarly to Delta-9 THC

Delta-8 THC and CBD

Although Delta-8 THC has a lot to offer, CBD provides many more rich hemp properties. A big difference between the two cannabinoids is that Delta-8 THC occurs in very small concentrations and to obtain large amounts; Hemp must undergo a crucial process that involves extraction, isolation, conversion, and refinement. However, CBD must go through an extraction process of its own or can be used as raw hemp CBD Flower.

What Delta-8 THC and CBD have in common is that they are both hemp derived. In other words, they both are produced from the Hemp plant. Also, they are both extracts that have undergone a process to isolate the hemp compounds. Another common denominator is that they both interact with our Endocannabinoid System (ECS) but in slightly different ways. Although there are some similarities, the differences between the two extracts are greater.

The Difference Between Delta-8 THC and CBD

There are many differences between both Delta-8 THC and CBD. It is still unknown how many benefits Delta-8 THC has to offer due to the lack of research. The most notable difference between Delta-8 THC and CBD is that Delta-8 THC is a psychoactive cannabinoid. This is a major decision factor on why one would choose Delta-8 THC over CBD. Despite the many rich Hemp properties in CBD, it will not get you high or offer any head change; but Delta-8 THC does. Getting high or experiencing a head change is what many people seek. People who enjoy Delta 8 THC love the euphoric feeling that it offers.

Keep in mind that although Delta-8 THC produces a high - it’s not the same as regular Cannabis (Delta-9 THC). Many users have found that a high from Delta-8 THC is a lot less potent and tend to experience less anxiety when compared to Delta-9 THC. This is because on a molecular level, Delta 9 THC has a double bond on the 9th carbon chain whereas Delta 8 THC has a double bond on the 8th carbon chain. A small difference produces a different high.
