Live Longer, Stay Younger with Cannabis Says New Study

live younger cannabis

As a cannabis smoker, there is a notable difference between me and my non-smoking peers. I’ve reached a point where most of my friends have children of their own and we no longer look like we used to back in the day.

In fact, I’m old enough to have a “back in the day” these days. However, one of the things that I have noticed is that the vast majority of my friends look at least 10 years older than me. Of course, I don’t have children of my own (which could be a factor for me looking so young), but I also noticed that my stoner-friends in general look far younger compared to their respective age groups.

There could be many factors including lifestyle, genetics, vices and so forth. But I also strongly believe that the regular cannabinoids I consume are attributing to me being young. And it turns out, that my speculations are backed up by science.

CBD for Anti-Aging Skin Care Products

All the way in Australia, a University and a Cannabis company are working on creating CBD-infused creams to help with a wide array of skin issues. While the research is still relatively young, the scientists are very enthused about the results.

As we know, cannabinoids like CBD, THC and minor cannabinoids work in tandem with our Endocannabinoid System. The ECS is responsible for a wide number of physiological functions and essentially helps us maintain homeostasis in the body.

The epidermis (our skin), has an endocannabinoid system of its own which we still don’t fully understand. This means that when we apply cannabis topically, it can be absorbed through the skin helping with epidermal functions on its own.

For anyone who has used cannabis creams; it feels very good.

The cannabinoids in cannabis helps my body function at an optimal level, and it seems to be slowing down the aging process as well. Especially when applied topically.

Cannabis also changes your habits

There was a time when I used to drink and smoke tobacco like a fiend. Have you ever had a six-month hangover? Well, I have.

There was a short two-to-three-year period where I “quit smoking weed” because of shit that was going on in my life. I wanted to approach life in a sober light. However, I wasn’t sober. I drank, and smoked cigarettes. I got drunk and played video games.

It wasn’t a healthy lifestyle to say the least.

Then, after some time, I rebooted my weed smoking for good. I stopped drinking for the most part and eventually quit smoking cigarettes.

As a result, I also stopped gaming as much and became more physically active. While I’m not a supremely healthy eater, I usually tend to stay away from junk food. And I smoke a whole lot of weed.

Fast forward ten years, and it seems I only aged a few years whereas some of my friends were warped by time.

My family and friends who did similar transformations also seem much younger than their peers and the only commonality I can find between them all is their cannabis consumption.

More Studies on the subject

In Germany, at the University of Bonn, researchers found that a little bit of cannabis a day actually helped to keep the brain young. They did experiments on mice where they did cognitive exercises with a control group of “young mice”.

The test groups, mice that were given THC at age 2-months (young), 12-months (middle aged) and 18-months (elderly) to see how they would compare against the control group. The “Young” group that received THC performed worse than the control group.

However, the “middle aged” and “Elderly” mice who received THC performed as well as the control group. In the case of the “non-thc” group of middle-aged and elderly mice, they performed far worse than the control “young” group.

THC boosted the number of connections between brain cells in the hippocampus. Additionally, CBD and THC have neuro regenerative properties. Considering that after the age of 25, there is a dramatic decline of endocannabinoid production in your body, it makes sense that there is a greater cognitive decline as you age.

That is…unless you substitute the endocannabinoids with phytocannabinoids similar to how you would take a vitamin-c supplement. Then, you maintain neuroplasticity and keep the mind young.

Perhaps all of this is purely speculative at best, but from a truly subjective perspective, I look and feel much younger than my peers. Could it be because of my regular cannabis consumption, or could it be merely that I was blessed with good genetics. Perhaps it’s a combination of both.

I wonder, for those cannabis smokers who are reading this article; do you look younger than your peers? Are you more active? Can you adapt quicker to change? Why not let me know in the comments!
