What’s the Right Amount of Weed – For You!

right amount of cannabis

Benzinga recently wrote an article on cannabis dosing and how it confuses most consumers. I have written somewhat on ‘dosing’ for consumers – however, I noticed that a large portion of our material related to microdosing.

The average consumer – at least the one who wants to get blitzed and experience some of the euphoria associated with cannabis consumption – might not know what a “good dose” is. When I was a young stoner – I didn’t have too many options. Weed or hash – that was essentially it. We had “hydro” and “chronic” but beyond that – no ATF or Green Crack to be found.

What this meant was that the “edibles we ate” we had to make ourselves. Yet while we were limited in options – it was far simpler to keep your doses simple too. Nowadays – with dabs and oils, extracts, infusions, lotions, sex lotions – hell, weed is in absolutely anything!

How much is too much nowadays that they have been growing weed with the purpose of curing cancer? I know for sure that the weed in a Cali dispensary tends to be far superior than street weed bought in Arkansas. Not necessarily – but this seems to be the norm.

Nonetheless – writing a definitive guide like “smoke a half a joint” or “eat only a quarter of a brownie” might have worked back in the day – but in today’s marketplace – that’s out of the window.

So here’s some “General Ground Rules for Smoking Weed” – These Days.

General Guidelines to keep you keeping on…

If there is one thing about weed it’s that you never want to “Green Out” – unless you do – but most people tend to want to avoid greening out.

Greening out occurs when you have consumed too much weed and you get shot into an intense inward trip that can last for hours. Some people have felt “ghosts” or “spirits” – other people went numb or passed out for hours.

Fortunately – greening out isn’t lethal…but it’s also not very desirable.

Thus – in order to avoid the whole greening out factor we recommend following these simple rules;

ALWAYS START SMALL – This goes for any other type of psychedelic too. Before you actually take a full dose – take a small dose a few days earlier. In the case of weed, give it a kiss before you make a commitment. This means – if someone hands you a joint, take a slow deep hit and chill. Don’t take two hits, don’t take more – just one quick decent hit – and chill.

If it’s a joint – who knows post this quarantine if passing joints will be cool  [it probably will be] – skip once in the rotation. You want to see how the weed hits you before you continue to smoke.

Obviously – this is a guide directed to newcomers to the craft of ganja and thus should be ignored by those who understand their own tolerance levels.

Even those of us who have smoked for years know that you can’t always “trust” a bowl. Sometimes it’s some “Super-Critical-Whatchamecallit” with some dabs and THC crystals sprinkled in it. If you’re hitting  that bowl like it’s some 1995 Street Weed – you’re in for a big surprise.

Since weed went commercial – I gained a new level of respect for a “friendly bowl”. This is especially true for those living in legal states.

Go Slow on the Edible Train – This is something that even before weed went commercial was something you had to watch out for. Edibles are slow releasing – meaning that it takes roughly 45-minutes to an hour before it hits you. If you stack up on edibles and the first one sends you to the moon – the subsequent edibles may send you to a new dimension only known by you.

What makes edibles tricky is that you don’t realize you’re getting higher until you’re high. The other thing is that it’s a more potent-form of THC called 11-Hydroxy-THC. This means that even though a strain could be “mild” when smoked – it can be “very potent” when decarboxylated and eaten.

When it comes to edibles – start with a half and then after an hour see how you’re doing. Usually by minute-30 you’d tell how it’s going to hit you. Nonetheless – respect the medible.

Extracts can be hardcore – I remember the first time I took a dab hit – it was fantastic. I smoked so little but got SO HIGH! The problem with kids these days is that they start with dabs without having ever formed a relationship with buds.

I recommend dabbing on occasions – don’t make it a habit. I love dabbing – but if I were to be doing it every day it would lose a lot of meaning to me. Of course – there was a time when I vaped all the time, which was different than torching up a dab-rig.

Nonetheless – considering that extracts typically have up to 90% THC – I recommend treating it just like you would an edible. One hit – let it chill with you for a while, then when you feel like you’re in control – go ahead and experiment.

After all – you’re the ultimate authority over how much or how little YOU can handle. So pay attention to your body and you’d be fine!
