We are often told that we need “science” to guide our cannabis policy. However, the people who call for “science” to dictate policy typically don’t use science when forming their own rules. This is exemplified perfectly by the latest statements from the UN’s Office on Drugs and Crime who is calling for an international ban on cannabis advertisement.

NBC News recently published an article, “Many drivers who test positive for marijuana have a child in the car, survey finds”. This obviously is a very alarmist headline that makes you immediately think that some Cheech-and-Chong-looking-dude is sitting there with a baby while smoking a bong.

The wolves are circling the cannabis industry, and they're wearing familiar sheep's clothing. Altria Group, the tobacco giant behind Marlboro cigarettes and a century of corporate malfeasance, is positioning itself to dominate legal cannabis using the exact same playbook they used to capture and control the tobacco market in the 1990s. This isn't just corporate expansion - it's a calculated theft of an industry that millions of people fought to legalize, often at great personal cost.
