How Kevin Sabet Changes his Tune to Suite the Times

running on fumes

Our not-so-friendly neighborhood troll – Kevin Sabet – is at it again, complaining about cannabis to anyone who will hear him out. I don’t think many people are giving a shit about what he’s saying these days, despite his government positions on “fighting the scourge of drugs”.

In an article he wrote entitled, “Time to Hit Pause on Marijuana Legalization”, he bitches about the House of Representatives meeting about the racial impact of marijuana laws. According to him, “nobody from the opposing side were invited”.

Well Kevin, perhaps that’s because your side has been talking a big game since 1930. And just like your predecessors, you like to swap your tactics based on the times.

In the beginning, marijuana was said to make you “hellishly violent”. Twenty years later, when faced with the commie-threat it made you “too passive”. Smoking weed was considered a gate way drug, and then it wasn’t. The list goes on.

Sabet, lately started changing his message slightly to reflect the times. It’s no surprise that we’re living in a society that is particularly concerned about social justice, equality and the likes.

Previously, Sabet spoke about the ills of “Big Marijuana” trying to “get your kids high”, however when that story was refuted by actual data – a feigning interest from the youths – he mentions “newer studies”.

A recent study, (that I found way to illogical to refute), claims that “parents who use marijuana discipline their children .5 times more than those who do not”. [paraphrased]. Essentially, a few thousand phone calls in one state indicated that some people tend to discipline their children more, and for some reason cannabis consumers do that.

However, I can guarantee that if you were to try to replicate the tests, you’d find that the results won’t be the same.

This doesn’t stop Sabet from slinging the bullshit like Billy the Kid trying to jack a train. He will find every and any opportunity to drum the same old drum – “Don’t Legalize!”

Too Late Kevin…Too Late

The problem with his is that he’s fighting a war that cannot be won. Also, it’s important to understand that he is incentivized to fight this. Kevin Sabet could give two shits about your kids, the communities and the likes. Kevin Sabet is all about money.

He who makes his money from the “rehabilitation industry”, a $25+ billion-dollar industry, cannot have the legalization of marijuana expand further as it would cut into his profit margins. He claims he is out there fighting the “big bad pot industry”, but in reality he’s just covering his bases.

Nonetheless, his discourse is totally out of sync with reality. The debate about “should we legalize” has long been won. Most people, all around the world, now have a firm belief that cannabis is not only okay, but it should be a part of society.

The questions we’re debating is not about “will it”, but rather “how will we regulate”. This is the very reason why opponents weren’t invited to the House of Representative meetings. It wasn’t about the “pot lobby” doing shady shit – it was about trying to find out how marijuana laws affect people differently based on race, demographics, geographical location etc.

Politicians are now on “how do we regulate”, and do not need the same tropes rehashed over-and-over again.

He also cares about “the people”

The overall tone throughout his last article illustrated that he is a man that can “sound like the times” even though his ideology is stuck in the 1980s. He spoke about how the cannabis industry is “for money” and could not care less about “the people”, however, lawmakers are precisely working on making it that way.

The major aim of his discourse is to “slow down marijuana legalization” or as he puts it “pause it”. But why?

Why would be maintain a system in limbo? The biggest issues that he is complaining about relates to the issues of a pseudo-legal cannabis system. There are conflicting laws that make it difficult to regulate and to ensure the safety of all.

In fact, Sabet’s religious war against cannabis is one of the reasons why these “issues” keep on happening. If there is an increase in property crime, it’s not because of cannabis, but rather that there is only partial legalization on the books, creating black market incentives.

If you were to regulate and make everything legal, it would drive down prices, lowering the value of cannabis and eventually, over time work out the kinks. Lawmakers, in the meanwhile will be working on making the laws fair for everyone involved. And poor old Sabet will stop suckling from Uncle Sam’s teet, because mandated rehabilitation for cannabis (one of his major sources of income) would no longer be permitted.

Oh Kevin, you silly man.
