DIY Rooting Agents for Cloning and Growing Dank Weed!

cannabis root agents

Growing cannabis is a fun and challenging activity – but it can teach you so much about life and plants in general. Today, we’re going to be talking about rooting agents, what they are – how to make your own, and how to use them!

You may have heard growers talk about “sticking a cutting into some rooting hormone” and may have thought, “Where the hell do I get that?”

While it’s true, you could probably buy this in a nursery or some garden supply store – the truth is that you can also make it yourself for next to nothing.

So without beating around the bush too much – let’s jump right into it shall we?

Why Use Rooting Agents?

For cannabis, there are typically two applications of using rooting agents:

To promote solid root development in the first part of the grow

To clone desired plants

When you’re sprouting your seeds and plant it in your starter cap – you can use some rooting “tea” to help promote the development of the roots.

A Good root system means that your plant will be able to support bigger nugs, because it can take up more nutrients from the grow medium. Thus, promoting this during the first week or two of the plant’s development gives you a significant advantage later on.

Secondly, when you have a plant that you think is simply “The tits” – then you’ll most probably want to clone it.

Rooting agents allow you to easily clone any plant. Depending on the time when you’re cloning, you could simply be creating copy’s from an awesome “mother plant” or trying to Super Crop by revegging clones that were in the flowering stage.

Nonetheless, rooting agents become a critical part of any grower’s arsenal.

How do I make a Rooting Tea?

One of the best things you can do when you’re sprouting cannabis seeds is to sprout a handful of lentils as well. This is because lentils has rooting hormones in them and you can use this to help promote the roots of your cannabis plants.

So how do you make it?

Sprout a handful of lentils

Once the sprouts are about 5-7 days old, crush them all and strain the liquid into a container

Mix this liquid with 1:10 [1 part to 10 of water].

So if you have 100 ml of “lentil juice” – you’ll mix it with 1 liter of water. If you don’t know the metric system, you should probably Google that shit!

Now that you have the rooting agent, you’ll simply use it to water the roots in the first 2 weeks of development. Try to water around the outside of the plant and not on the base of the stalk itself.

You’re going to try to promote lateral root growth, so by watering the edge you allow the roots to pull that way. But also, remember to give a bit of water on the center of the root stalk too – since this is meant to help promote the development.

Rooting Agents to Clone

The next application of rooting agents comes down to cloning. Cloning is actually a lot simpler than you can imagine and by growing some complementary plants – you can have a perpetual supply of rooting agents.

So here’s a quick rundown of a few possible options:

Lentils [we covered this]

Spit

Apple Cider Vinegar

Cinnamon

Honey

Aspirin

Aloe Vera

Yes, you read right – even your spit can help with rooting, albeit not the most effective method.

Today, we’re only going to be honing in on the “Honey” solution and the “Aloe Vera Solution” mainly because the latter provides additional benefit.

To turn honey into a rooting hormone, you simply want to boil two cups of water and put in a tablespoon of honey. Wait for the solution to cool off and then you can store it. It will be good for up to two weeks.

To clone, simply cut the stem at a 45º angle and then dip the end into the solution. Immediately, place it in a starter cap and pray to the ganja gods that it takes root.

Let’s Do Aloe Vera

Now let’s go to my favorite. Aloe Vera is a succulent that is very easy to grow and it naturally produces more offspring. If you have enough containers, this is a succulent you can breed at mass and helps you with more than just growing weed.

To make your own aloe concoction, simply take a “leaf” and cut a decent portion for yourself. You’ll then cut that part in half and remove the “gel” from it.

This gel, by itself can be used as your rooting agent. You’ll simply dip the cutting in the solution and let it grow!

Additionally, you can also take the gel and mix it with some water and put it in a nebulizer. Apart from helping with root growth, Aloe also acts as a means to protect against plagues and diseases and increases the efficiency of the leaf to absorb nutrients.

I frequently use Aloe Vera Sprays to help my plants grow lush and large during the flowering stage. That along with some banana tea – and you’re bound to have some awesome nugs that impress!

Bottom-line

Rooting agents is a must for any grower who wants to take their grows to the next level. This article is meant to give you solutions that you can do at home. As we mentioned, there are several solutions available – but the ones I shared today are by far my favorite, low cost solutions that actually works!

If you’re in the business of growing your own weed – then these DIY rooting agents should become a part of your grower’s arsenal. When I discovered these DIY solutions, it significantly reduced the costs of operation as now I use my own food purchases and cooking to form a part of my grow operations.

If you’re looking to make a rooting agent – now you’ve got everything you need!
