Navigating Holiday Family Quarrels – Breaching the Cannabis Divide

having the weed talk with parents

I recently read a column called “Ask Amy” where a reader spoke about her fiancé’s job within the cannabis industry clashed with the ideological views of her parents. This, to the point where her parents asked he (and her fiancé) to lie about the man’s profession to the grandparents.

This made me think about just how lucky I am when it comes to those who surround me and their views on cannabis – however, to be frank about it – I’ve been working on those around me for more than 10 years now.

Understanding the “olds”

It’s true, there is still a cannabis-divide with certain people within the population. In the case of the example provided in the Ask Amy Column, we can see verily that the people in question are all over the age of 60.

While it’s true that no age-data was provided within the column, we can assume that the person writing is at least 30 or older. If we assume that the parents are at least 25 years older than their children, and their parents an additional 25-30 years older…we’re looking at two specific generations – Baby Boomers and “The Silent Generation”.

Baby Boomers are roughly 60 years old, they lived the majority of the prohibitionist programming. Born between 1946-1964, they were relatively young when Nixon declared the war on drugs. They were probably young parents during the Raegan era – meaning that “D.A.R.E” affected them the most.

They were the ones who were told about the “scourge of marihuana”, or “The devils weed”. Their parents, the “Silent Generation” or “Traditionalists” come from the pre 1945 era. In other words, these are those who went through WWII and all of these issues. For them, they suffered Reefer Madness and Hearst-Anslinger indoctrination. In other words – nonsense and racism.

It’s important to understand this prior to moving forward with the conversation, because the only way you can ever reach anyone is if you argue from their perspective. If you don’t believe me, just watch the Alt-Right Debate the Alt-Left. Harmony is impossible unless you point both left and right in a righteous hatred towards the middle [or everyone that is not them].

Now that we know

Now that you understand that these people aren’t “against weed because they are assholes”, but rather that they were raised in a world where cannabis was akin to “raping scores of white women”, usually by some devilish person of color.

They were duped by the government with false information; lies paid for by their own tax dollars – brainwashing on their own dime.

Hell, these are the same people who were being tested on by the CIA for Mind Control [MK-Ultra] without their permission. They suffered the great dissolution of a government who betrayed their trust. We were born in a world where government trust is virtually non-existent. They – for the longest time believed in Uncle Sam – and believed that Sam’s words were truth.

Now – some “fucking hippie is trying to tell them that “pot is good for you!” This not only means reiterates the lies the government told them. But also points out their ignorance on the subject matter.

If you know anything about humans – they love to be comfortable. This is both true in a physical sense as well from an ideological perspective. The Boomers and the “Silent Gens” might find it difficult to engage with the idea of “marijuana” and thus, in this instance utilizing the power of “Slight of mind” you can subvert their programming and talk to them without them going all “ape-shit” over the content.

Okay – I’ll tell you anyhow, but share this article nonetheless.

Slight of Mind – How to talk Weed in Old!

The first thing you’ll need to understand is that “altering your lexicon is key”, In other words, no longer will you refer to cannabis in any other light other than “cannabis”. That means – “no weed, no mj, ganja, stogie, puff, reef, herb, derb, etc”. You’ll only refer to it as cannabis and the cannabinoids.

When you’re talking to someone who isn’t ideologically programmed to respond negatively to weed – you can use any word you wish – however, for those who are subjected to this type of programming – cannabis is king.

Secondly, you’ll want to play on another fallacy that older generations tend to cling onto – “they don’t make things how they used to”.

The rise of artificial scares those who do not understand it or who are incapable of adapted to the velocity of innovation of modern society. Thus, anything “new” they shun. These “medicines” they tend to take – is the “new” when we’re talking about cannabis.

The medical community, under the leadership of pharma managed to convince people that “lab made drugs” are medicine whereas “eating properly and preventative medicine” is “wellness”. However, anyone who understands that “You are what you eat” understands that proper diet is medicinal.

Thus, making it clear that the “artificial” medicine, can be outperformed by the more “wholesome” cannabis, which is literally made for you due to the – and here’s the kicker – THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM.

Literally the only thing you ever have to do to convince anyone that cannabis is good for them is to point them to a part of their body they are probably not even aware of – The ECS.

Then, simply tell them that the vast majority of their illnesses arise not because they are getting old – but because they are endocannabinoid deficient and that they need cannabinoid supplements which can be naturally obtained via phytocannabinoids. The best source for phytocannabinoids – Cannabis!

And if all else fails – get some CBD and challenge them to take it for a few days. If they don’t feel better – you’ll never talk to them about it again.

In most cases – They feel 100% better and will be greater advocates for weed than you’ll ever be. Above all however, you wish to come from a place of respect and love. It’s not about being right, but about helping people come to the truth about weed.

And in some cases, people will still not listen – in these instances simply let it be, it’s not worth the effort.
