Have you ever wondered what are the best states for recreational and medical marijuana use? In this article, we will cover the best states for enthusiastic pot lovers. Many states have relaxed their cannabis laws so much that it has allowed their legal markets to explode. Gone is the bad stigma for smoking weed, and now in is the commercialization of it. California Cannabis laws are the best example, they have incredible brands such as Raw Garden and Cookies that have surfaced from this marijuana friendly state.

 

The trend among many states is an ounce of cannabis possession for recreational users. Oregon and Washgionton have the most relaxed cannabis laws for possession amounts.

The Legal Recreational State with the Best View: Alaska

Alaska legalized both recreational and medical marijuana in November of 2014. Alaska marijuana laws state that a person above the age of 21 years old is legally allowed to purchase, possess, and use marijuana. The legal limit is 28.35 grams (one ounce) and no more than 6 marijuana plants. Alaska is one of the few states which offers cannabis tours to tourists across the globe. In fact, Alaska is expected to be the first state to approve of on-site consumption. While Alaska is a great place to smoke some pot, it does have a few downfalls—the biggest being the price! It is estimated that the average cost of high-quality marijuana for one ounce is approximately $300.

 

The Recreational Pot State that Makes the Best Strains: California

Like in other states, California marijuana laws dictate that a person can legally possess up to 28.5 grams (one ounce) of marijuana if they are above 21 years of age. Similarly, those above 21 years of age are legally allowed to grow and possess up to 6 living marijuana plants.

In fact, cannabis is so popular in Colorado, that the number of pot shops easily outnumber the number of McDonald’s.

In the state of Colorado, both citizens and tourists can purchase a maximum of 28 grams of pot in a single transaction. Previously, Colorado marijuana laws only allowed tourists to purchase a maximum of 7 grams of marijuana. We decided to put Colorado on our list of the best states for cannabis as it is the third cheapest state to purchase cannabis, where an ounce can cost approximately $240.

 

The Cheapest Recreational Weed State in 2020: Oregon

Oregon is considered the cheapest state when it comes to purchasing pot. In the state of Oregon, the average cost of one ounce of high-quality marijuana can go up to $210. Oregon marijuana laws state that recreational users may possess up to 28.35 grams of weed. Although recreational cannabis is legal Oregon law mandates that it is illegal to use in public places such as restaurants, hotels, and parks.

 

The Capital of Legal Recreational States: Washington, DC

How could we not add Washington, DC to our list of the best recreational cannabis states of 2020? Washington passed Initiative 502 in 2012 which decriminalized recreational marijuana. As a result this state is a popular tourist destination for cannabis enthusiasts where various companies offer weed-friendly accommodations and cannabis tours. It is considered the second cheapest place to purchase cannabis where an ounce of marijuina can be anywhere around $235.
