Why Vaping Marijuana is Better for Your Wallet

Why Vaping Marijuana is Cheaper Than Smoking It (And Healthier) from CannabisNet on Vimeo.

You might have recently read a new study that suggests that vaping marijuana will get you higher than smoking it. While the study doesn’t tell you “why”, I would assume that it’s because when you “smoke cannabis” you combust the plant matter. The elevated temperature kills off many of the minor cannabinoids within the mix.

This in turn reduces the synergistic effects of cannabinoids and terpenes, thereby reducing the “entourage effect”. Obviously, this is just me guessing, but I’m almost certain that if we take those factors into the equation…I’m most likely right.

However, today I’m not going to be talking about whether or not vaping marijuana makes you higher or not. Today we’re talking about economy, and specifically why vaping cannabis will actually save you money.

Burning weed costs more

Other than the physical implications of inhaling smoke, burning weed will make you spend more on average per month than vaping it. This is because vaping weed gives you more tokes per bowl than smoking it.

If you don’t believe me I encourage you to experiment with it and you’ll quickly find that vaping weed will provide you roughly 5 times the toking power than burning it. I have done these experiments in the past and found that the average pipe bowl gives me between 3-5 tokes per bowl.

Now, if I were to take the same amount and place it inside my vaporizer, I can easily get between 10-15 tokes if I leave it at a medium temperature.

Just by this reasoning you should be able to see the money-saving potential of investing in a decent vaporizer.

It’s also important to consider that I’m not talking about extracts, but rather flower. Extracts are also cheaper in the long run, but that’s another lesson we’ll be covering in the future.

Your weed will last you longer

When you switch to vaporizing your buds, you’ll also learn that your stash will last you longer. This comes back to the rate of consumption.

The average cannabis user consumes between 3-7 grams of weed per week. The average joint has about .9 grams of bud in it. All in all, it’s about 8 joints per week on average or between 16-20 bowls per week depending on the smoking method.

However, once your bud is smoked…it’s gone. You can’t recycle the ash. This isn’t the case with vaped cannabis.

Firstly, if we’re talking about the amount of bowls in terms of Rate of Consumption (RoC), you’ll immediately increase your “bowl potential” to at least double what you can get from smoking cannabis. Whereas your 3-7 grams would last you a week with smoking cannabis, it will last you between a week and a half to two weeks before you need to go to the weed-hookup for more.

This means you’re already decreasing your spending by roughly 50%.

Furthermore, you can also use the byproduct of vaped cannabis (AVB) for milder infusions for edibles or drinks or teas. Granted, AVB [Already-Vaped-Bud] tastes like ass, it has saved me several times when I ran out of bud.

You can smoke AVB. While it won’t get you “high” it will definitely mellow you out. Most of the THC has been removed from the weed, meaning you’re getting minor cannabinoids. This helps with things like anxiety and stress. It sure as helped me a lot when I was quitting smoking cigarettes as it became my herbal substitute for smoking.

Is Vaping better?

Here is where it comes down to preferences. Some people love to smoke some good bud. At least in my case this rings true. I wouldn’t say that one method is necessarily “better” than the other, but what we can say definitively is that vaping is a cheaper alternative.

This will allow you to spend more on the quality of your cannabis as opposed to the quantity. Additionally, I find that when you have a ‘shwaggy bag’ of weed, vaping it will get you higher than smoking it.

The biggest problem with vaping marijuana is purchasing the tools necessary for good vaping. Sure, you can spend a small amount on a ‘meh’ vaporizer, or you could buy something like the Pax III which will set you back a few hundred dollars.

A Pax will last you for years if you do proper maintenance. So the investment is definitely worth it, but I also understand why there are so many people hesitant when it comes to vaping, especially due to the entry-level price point.

Nonetheless, the device will end up paying for itself over time, as you’ll be able to smoke more for less while getting higher. I mean, that’s a definite win-win situation for you.

If you’re on the fence about vaping marijuana as your primary way of consuming, I hope that this article gave you something to think about.

So the only question that remains is; “To Vape…or not to Vape…what was the question?”
