Death Row Records has been one of the music industry's most renowned and culturally relevant platforms for the last three decades, with multiple chart-topping records and historical artists.

Today, Death Row Records is led by a new team with a robust management structure. The famed musical empire was recently acquired by Snoop Dogg and has reemerged as a cross-cultural enterprise spanning music, entertainment, fashion, and cannabis, all linked by blockchain for the future generation.

To restore Death Row to its previous light, all components of the record label are being updated to better suit the needs of the modern audience and their ever-changing tastes. On the 29th of December 2022, Snoop Dogg revealed that Death Row Records, the iconic West Coast hip-hop platform that has featured artists such as Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, and others, is venturing into the cannabis game with Death Row Cannabis.

What kinds of strains might we anticipate? Death Row Cannabis will first release a variety of OG strains, such as Runtz, Tropicana Cookies, and Strawberry Gary. The first batch is presented in special edition commemorative metallic bags that feature the classic hooded prisoner character sitting in an electric chair. The same image can be found on the original Death Row Records logo.

The new depiction of the prisoner was created to unveil the cannabis brand, specifically for the Death Row Cannabis drop. The primary distinction between the new and old logo is that the new logo has one hand free and is smoking a huge doobie. Also looking to offer the best cannabis strains while considering the market competition, Snoop Dogg chose one of the best cannabis cultivators to execute this drop.

Who is Cultivating Death Row Cannabis?

Death Row Cannabis is curated by the one and only mighty AK. Ak was specifically chosen by Snoop Dog himself for the drop. AK is widely known for cultivating "fire" cannabis. His palate for choosing extraordinary cannabis strains has won him huge approval in the cannabis community.

If you've been paying attention to the California cannabis landscape over the past years, you've probably heard about Wizard Trees. In fact, you don't even need to be in California to have heard about the gospel of Wizard Trees. AK, the cultivator Snoop chose, is well renowned for his work with Wizard Trees in choosing, sprouting, and growing strains from breeder DEO Farms such as Studio 54, RS11 (or Rainbow Sherbert #11), and Shirazi. AK'S cultivation skills are difficult to ignore.

AK is also the driving force behind the IYKYK brand SMKRS and TRP LLC's respected Vice President of Cultivation. TRP LLC is the firm that manages the bulk of the Cookies outlets around the country, including their Florida facilities. Additionally, AK has earned a reputation for being an expert at growing fire OG strains.

Death Row Cannabis, which will be available in retailers next week, does not intend to keep its customers waiting. The brand will soon announce a specific date and location for its first drop. Death Row Cannabis will be available for the first time on Monday, the 2nd of January, 2023, in selected Cookies California outlets in San Bernardino, Brentwood, and San Diego, with additional locations and states to follow.

For more information on the debut release, you can follow Death Row Cannabis and Death Row Records on Instagram. The accounts exhibited a branded pre-roll tube and shared an animation of the Death Row Records logo. Kevin Gilliam, nicknamed DJ Battlecat, provided the soundtrack for the teaser video directed by MylarMen.

Snoop Dogg and Death Row

Death Row Records established itself in cannabis culture before creating its own cannabis brand. During its peak in the 1990s, the label released some of Hip Hop's most legendary cannabis-friendly records, such as Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle and Dr. Dre's The Chronic.

At its zenith, Death Row Records artists were larger than life. They practically defined an era, especially the West Coast G-funk sound, which was often imitated but never recreated. "For over 30 years, Death Row Records has reigned as one of the music industry's most culturally significant and iconic platforms, with innumerable chart-topping records and landmark musicians," the label stated.

Today, Death Row Records is under the reign of Snoop Dogg. ASnoop Dogg purchased Death Row Records on the 10th of February, before the launch of Death Row Cannabis. Snoop Dogg stated at the time that It felt nice to have control of the label where he started his career. He has the vision to revolutionize the record label for the new era, and the launch of Death Row Cannabis is a positive step towards achieving that.

Snoop is also no new to the cannabis market. In fact, Leafs By Snoop was among the first celebrity-endorsed cannabis brands in the United States when it was launched in 2015. Before branching out into Canada in 2018, Leafs catered to users in Colorado, the first state to legalize recreational cannabis use alongside Washington, D.C.

As the worldwide marijuana industry continues to expand into a $20 billion sector, Snoop Dog has also invested in several other cannabis brands. His early endorsement of Dutchie enabled the cannabis technology firm based in Oregon to raise its capitalization to $3.75 billion in 2021.

Snoop's personal smoking habit is also legendary. Earlier this year, the 51-year-old rapper revealed to Martha Stewart, his Potluck Dinner Party co-host, that he smokes up to 25 joints daily. However, the seasoned smoker acknowledged Larry Fitzgerald, Tom Brady, and Jim Gray's Let's Go! Podcast a few weeks ago that a celebrity had out-smoked him.

Conclusion

Death Row Records is foraying into the lucrative cannabis market under the current direction of Snoop, who recently acquired the label. From the onset, Snoop Dogg signed to Death Row Records and has always lauded cannabis, most notably on records like The Chronic 2001 and The Chronic by Dr. Dre and on almost every Snoop Dogg album. Hence, Snoop Dog's earlier investments and the launch of Death Row Cannabis do not come as a surprise.
