Hydroponic GroBox Aims To Change The Home Grow Market

Cannabis.net has the pleasure of speaking to GroBox, a new cannabis based startup that hopes to tackle the messy home grow scene and give it a much nicer appearance, with even better grow results.  GroBox is a quick to assemble home hydroponic set up that just requires water.  They have also made the pieces of the system detachable and easy to assmble, the same way Legos buid on each other.  We caught up with GroBox as their crowdfunding campaign has just launched today.

what is grobox

1. How did you first get the idea for GroBox?

We saw a lot of other companies putting out smaller hydroponic units that really weren't large enough to grow anything significant.  And of the ones that were costed small fortunes and included extra features that really weren't necessary for having a successful grow.  We saw a need for a product that included only the absolute essentials you needed to grow and could yield a sizable harvest.

2.  What was the first test case you grew, was it tomatoes?

Nope, we definitely went straight into growing cannabis and that is all we have grown in our prototypes.  It is what we designed for and what all of our beta testers want to grow!

3.  How long have you been working on the project?

We made our first prototype in October 2016

4.  Have you raised money for it or is this the first attempt?

We have raised $1,000,000 from private investors.  Creating an innovative and large product from scratch requires large investment in R&D and lots of expensive prototypes, extensive testing, and investment in upfront set up and tooling costs

5.  How many cannabis plants could you grow at once int eh GroBox?

The GroBox is designed to grow one cannabis plant

6.  Other than water in the bottom section, what type of maintenance and work is involved?

The user is expected to change the reservoir water once a week and add some water between water changes as needed.  Other than changing/adding water to base, the user will need to change their air filters once every 3-4 months.  Besides that, the control panel will take care of everything else!  There's also the optional (and highly encouraged!) maintenance of training your plant to maximize your yield.

7.  How expensive are the lights or fans to replace?  How long should a set of lights last in the GroBox?

We have designed the GroBox so that all the components can be replaced if they ever need to be upgraded or repaired. The GroBox is equipped with LED lights which will have a productive life of several years!  More than twice as long as their HPS/MH counterparts.

8  What will be the price point you intend to sell the GroBox for?

$1299 but will be available for $835 in the initial hours for true fans and early supporters

9.  How does someone contact you in order to get one or ask a question?

10.  What is the address of your Kickstart campaign or URL?
