Watch out for Faux-Cannabis Politicians in 2020 - A Biden in Sheep's Clothing
Sadly, the following year is another presidential election cycle in the United States. That means that every late night show, Saturday Night Live Sketch and every FUCKING news agency will be talking about the one topic that we all love to hate – Politics!
This means, that while I try to avoid the subject as much as possible – especially when it comes to partymongering – I’ll be forced to get into the debate. However, rest assured that my articles will be strictly about whether the candidate is “good or bad” for the cannabis industry. I do not care about their platform, their affiliation or whether their name rhymes with rump.
For me, the only thing that is important is where they stand on the subject of weed. And thus, I’ll be one of the most honest political-non-analysts out there.
On that note – let’s talk about the recent “Twitter Scandal” that hit Sen. Warren’s campaign.
The Backstory
One of the presidential hopefuls in 2020 (she’s not gonna win) is Sen. Elizabeth Warren who has a very “pro cannabis” stance on paper. Her and Bernie Sanders both claim that if elected president, they would legalize cannabis via Executive Order.
They don’t just want to “de-schedule” cannabis, but they want to “de-list” it – meaning they want to remove it completely from the CSA. To be honest, they should GET RID OF THE CSA because it’s a corrupt piece of legislation that has destroyed the lives of millions of non-violent people over the decades. But that’s another story.
Warren’s cannabis policies (on paper) seems to be very progressive and one of her key components is “Restorative Justice”. In other words, if you were busted with weed in the past – and weren’t selling to kids or peddling to the cartels – you could have your record expunged.
So far so good….right?
Whoop there it is!
Then suddenly, a Florida College Student by the name of Nicholas Dore came into the picture. On a twitter post Dore claimed that he was denied a paid position on her campaign because of a past marijuana conviction on his record.
I’m not going to go into the details about it all, however, basically he received a call that informed him that he couldn’t work with them because of this “past cannabis conviction”.
When the tweet became more popular and started trending, a staffer from the Warren Campaign responded that it was for some “other reason” via a phone call.
“After that tweet went viral, they tried to point that it was to an arrest that some Warren supporters had dug up that resulted in the case being dismissed. I wasn’t even convicted,” he told Marijuana Moment in a phone interview on Tuesday. “They told me it was because the case was still pending investigation, which is just false.” - Source
This in reference to another burglary offense he was charged with, but never convicted of. Once more, if you’re interested in the details by all means continue to investigate.
Nonetheless, Dore switched his affiliation to Bernie Sander’s campaign and now is 100% feeling the Bern.
Let’s learn something from all of this!
Now that you know the back story, let’s try to understand something fundamental that everyone should know. Politicians will say what you want them to say only to be elected. There are very few (if any) politicians that are truly there to fight for all of your rights.
As with every person on this planet, personal convictions, affiliations, loyalties and so forth plays a big part in how we behave. Politicians have other affiliations as well which include donors, political allies and so forth. This means that often what they “say” and what they “do” are entirely different things.
Remember how Mexico was going to pay for Trump’s wall? 4 years later, and we still don’t have a single peso paying for that wall.
The point I’m trying to make, and I believe it is of absolute importance, is that politicians will pander to what Americans want – but might not necessarily plan to implement those policies.
Be sure, that the person you’re voting for will actually do what they say. Of this, I cannot help you any further. As mentioned, all I’ll do is analyze their positions on weed – no more and no less. I do now intend to influence anyone’s political vote this coming year – but rather to objectively analyze the policies that will affect those who read my material.
Personally, I always go for fringe candidates because to me global politics is just the longest running reality show with real-world implications. However, I am merely an observer…the proverbial fly on the wall…who happens to smoke a bunch of weed as well.
What we can learn from all of this is that we should not rely on the words of politicians to make our decisions on our support – but merely, by their actions…because those speak louder than words.
