As part of his new rules on Friday's "Real Time," Bill Maher implored those who are for a completely weed-legal America to "get your head out of your grass."
Though some think legalized pot is a forgone conclusion, Maher said "progress doesn't just automatically snowball." The TV host brought up how more than 500 dispensaries have been shut down in Los Angeles and dispensaries "still can't get banking services." He also says with other rights like gay marriage, no one stood to lose money if the law changed. With legal marijuana and the war on drugs, it's different.
And just to make sure he got your attention, Maher even lit up a joint, which he said was legal. For now, anyway ...
Let’s just say that I am not a big fan of Bill Maher – never have been, never will be. It’s almost like he tries far too hard and nothing comes natural – including his Donald Trump Jr. hair! And when I started watching him the other night talking about how slow things do take to change and comparing marijuana to abortion, he lost me completely. I thought, ‘here he goes on another one of his pointless diatribes!”
But I kept listening. Probably for the same reason people would listen to Howard Stern when he was on the original www – because I wanted to know what other idiotic thing he would say next (and because its obvious I have a bias to seeing weed become legal!)
Maher started making sense. Especially when he made reference to taking away people’s abilities to make money if “things” were to change! He’s right, as many people out there looking to make cannabis into the next big thing, there are just as many if not more that already eyeball deep in money having cannabis be considered illegal! And that battle will not go down easily! Not when it comes to money!
But toking it up on air still doesn’t make him any cooler! For the same reasons Carrot Top will never be cool!
