Stoning on a Budget – How to Stretch your Weed
A few weeks back I wrote an article on “Making Cannabis-Infused Hamburgers” thinking, “hey, this is a nice way to get high”.
Several of the comments however indicated that most people simply don’t have the budget to be doing infusions like that. Of course, the idea behind the article wasn’t for you to go out and make hamburgers everyday, but rather to have an option over brownies when you’re making edibles.
Nonetheless, this got me thinking about the average cannabis consumer and his/her economy. Thus, I decided to create an article on how to stretch your weed as far as you can. We’ll be talking about consumption methods, habits and much more.
Grow your own
While not being an immediate solution, it is something that will provide benefit over time. For those people who struggle to buy premium weed, growing your own is probably the best way to make sure you never run out.
Of course, this will take roughly 6 months to consume from “seed to smoke”, but if you create a 2-month interval in between crops, totaling 3 cycles, you’ll be able to eventually crop out every two months. For this to work, you’ll need to have complete control over the environment, so investing into a grow tent or building your own box is ideal. Make sure that you can have up to six plants in the space and you’ll be golden.
You’ll also need to create a “flowering chamber” in order to conveyer belt your crop cycles. It’s a bit of an investment, but it’s the only way to have an endless supply of reefer for a fraction of the cost.
Use Dry-Herb Vaporizers
By far the best way to stretch your weed is vaping. While concentrates give you the best cost to smoke benefit, using a dry herb vaporizer will stretch your stash. Concentrates also have a higher price-tag and requires more equipment, making the initial investment a tad bit costlier.
However, getting your hands on a dry-herb vaporizer, meaning you can grind up bud and put it into the vaporizer, will give you an average between 10-20 hits per bowl. Compare this to a pipe where you’re getting between 2-6 hits per bowl, it’s definitely increasing efficiency.
On a plus, since you are eliminating smoke from the equation it’s actually a far healthier way for you to consume weed.
Also, don’t throw away the AVB (already vaped bud) since that can be used for edibles (very mild) and also as a “shit-I-don’t-have-anything-to-smoke-right-now” substitute. There have been many nights where an AVB joint did the trick to let me sleep or reduce my anxiety. It won’t necessarily get you high, but you won’t be sober either.
Knowing when NOT to smoke
Another trick is knowing when you’ll get high. If you’ve been toking all day, and it’s late at night, odds are that the extra bowl you packed will have minimal effect. Sometimes, it’s better to just NOT smoke that last bowl and save it for a time it will actually get you high – if that’s the objective.
Obviously, for medical patients you’ll be consuming cannabis when you have to. However, for us recreational folks out there, sometimes it’s just better to go to sleep and toke the following day. There’s been many occasions when I smoked a bowl (that did absolutely nothing) just for the sake of smoking a bowl.
This, at least in my criteria is a waste of perfectly good bud.
Don’t use Bongs or Joints or Blunts
If you don’t want to stretch your weed, go ahead and smoke joints, blunts and bongs. These are one of the fastest ways you’ll burn through your weed.
On the plus side with blunts and joints is that you get roaches. If you’re adamant about smoking these, save those roaches for later times when you don’t have cannabis on hand. About three roaches will form a new joint. I don’t know if it’s more potent or not, but it will do the trick in getting you high. The taste won’t be great, but it’s a way to recycle your bud.
Segment your tokes: Day-Stashes
For those who do not have enough self-discipline to reserve their tokes, creating small segments of tokes helps. What I mean by this is that if you were to buy, let’s say 10 grams, you’ll divide those grams evenly for the days until you buy a new stash.
Then, only smoke the “day-stash” and refrain from smoking the rest. This way, you plan out the amount you can consume every day without running out. Sometimes you might smoke more, but then again, sometimes you’d smoke less.
This is truly for people who know how to plan their consumption according to their budgets and works if you have the discipline to pull it off.
However, I reiterate that “growing your own” is the best way to stretch your weed indefinitely.
