Biden Administration Fires Whitehouse Staffers for Past Cannabis Use, Showing Us in Which Era He Lives
The year is 2021 and cannabis is quickly becoming more popular by the day. To the North, Canada has had legal cannabis for a few years now and to the South Mexico has recently joined the growing list of countries adopting more tolerant cannabis policies.
Smack dab in the middle of all of this we find good old Uncle Sam. While there are several places in the United States that have legalized cannabis for both medical and recreational purposes, The US government still lags behind in terms of federal legalization. There are talks that some sort of cannabis legislation will pass federally this year, however a major shift might seem dubious at best.
Since the presidential elections I have been telling people that Biden is not really an ally of cannabis. In fact, one could argue that he is partly responsible for the mass incarceration of minorities due to his 1994 crime bills which specifically empowered states to enact policies such as the “three strikes you're out” laws and so forth.
Even last year, as cannabis support has seen the highest support in polling numbers since polling began, Biden was not a proponent of cannabis legalization. He simply regurgitated the same old drug war rhetoric with an updated clause suggesting that “we need more research.”
His running mate Kamala Harris was in favor of cannabis legalization as she cosponsored a bill that seemed very promising, she has since changed her tune and fell in line with what Biden believes. That is the very conservative “let the states decide” position often touted by Republicans.
This isn't to say that Biden administration hasn't done any action in relation to cannabis policy. A recent Daily Beast article revealed that the White House had ask a few staffers to resign due to their admittance of past marijuana use. This despite the fact that earlier the month they were told that past cannabis use would be overlooked or at the very minimal not be a factor the Biden Admin.
This did not sit well with Twitter as was covered in this Forbes article where several prominent voices spoke up against the removal of White House staffers over past cannabis use. One would imagine that the Biden administration would at least be savvy enough to realize that the entire world wants cannabis legal. Those that oppose cannabis legalization are dwindling in numbers or are profiting from the opposite system.
In addition, one White House staffer was overlooked when the cannabis culling took place. We're talking of course about Kamala Harris who have admitted to smoking weed in college. Allegedly only five staffers were fired for smoking marijuana, but this begs the question as to why fire anyone whatsoever.
The mere fact that you can drink alcohol and stroll about the White House but can get fired for smoking a joint is ridiculous to say the least. It seems to me that there is a dissonance between what people think their government is, and what their government really is.
And with the Joe Biden presidency you will get what do you have always gotten- the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. I know, you were frightened because of the orange menace that sat upon the throne for four years. I know you thought that voting the other way was going to solve all of your problems.
