Here’s why you should grow cannabis in 2019
As I’m writing this, on December 31st 2018, I’m sprouting a few seeds and preparing a grow area. I plan on cropping out next year like a boss and today I’ll be talking about why you should do the same. Of course, this is an opinion and I would never ask you to risk your freedom if you’re still living in a super prohibition state, however for those of you interested in this venture...read on.
Growing, cropping out and smoking your own bud is one of the most satisfying things you can do as a cannabis consumer. I have written extensively about the how and the why’s in the past, however coming into 2019…there are several other reasons why you should start thinking about planting your seeds this coming year.
Reason 1: The Global Perception of Cannabis Changed
No longer is marijuana a taboo topic. Nowhere is this more evident than with within the political spectrum. Over the past year or so, many politicians who once held a “tough on drugs” stance has now flipped to the cannabis sector.
This only shows us that the public has spoken and the politicians are finally responding. This coming year, even more states will legalize cannabis and potentially 2019 could be the year that ends the federal prohibition of marijuana in the United States.
The reason why this is so likely is because both Mexico and Canada will have legal cannabis on the books, effectively sandwiching the US between two potential cannabis powerhouses. In all likeliness, Canada will attempt to establish trade with Mexico and for this to work, the United States needs to be in on the scheme.
It would be beneficial to the US to follow suit since the multi-billion dollar industry is already booming, but with a completely legal regime…it will go supernova!
Due to the perception shift, growing weed will no longer be something that is reserved for losers or potheads, but for people who want to experiment with their consciousness or growing for medical reasons.
Just be wary of pesky neighbors that might still drop a dime on you for exercising your human rights.
Reason 2: A Better understanding of Cannabis
Many people smoke weed without knowing what it really is. When you grow marijuana and see how it develops from seed to smoke, you get a firmer understanding of what you’re smoking. If you do a good job, you set a precedent on what good weed should look like.
For me personally, it wasn’t until I cropped out my first few plants that I had a deeper understanding about trichome development, resin production, pests, molds, fungi and the likes. When you deal with it personally, it helps you when purchasing weed in the future.
Furthermore, understanding the effort of what goes into growing good weed, you’ll get to know about the “value of good weed”. In other words, paying $10-$20 per gram won’t cause so much ‘pain’ to your wallet because you know what went into producing it.
It’s the old adage of understanding the “Value of a Dollar”. Except…in this example the dollar is a bud.
Reason 3: Become your own supplier
If you’re still living in a prohibition state in 2019, while there might be some risk in growing weed, if you keep it modest you shouldn’t have any real issues. By modest I mean you’re growing 3-4 plants in your home and not 10-20.
If you’re growing mass, you increase risk. However, keeping a small grow under wraps reduces your risks by reducing your need to buy weed. Within a prohibition state, the highest risk factor is purchasing weed.
Thus, by creating your own supply chain you remove yourself from that risk. Nonetheless, if you are considering growing within a prohibition state, refer to my other articles to know how to do it without getting busted.
Reason 4: Start Expanding your Cannabis Use
Most people think about cannabis and they think about smoking it. However, when you’re growing weed you have plenty of different things you can do with it. You have leaf, you have stems and you have live resin you can incorporate into your consumption practices.
One of the things you could do easily and simply is to create your own hemp wick from the stems. You could also make your own rolling wraps from the leaf or simply juice the leaf.
Will you be growing this coming year?
I for one will be growing up to 20 plants this coming year. That’s because I live in Mexico and the proposed legislation for legalized weed will permit 20 plants per person or roughly a half a kilo. I aim to exploit this and grow freely under a legal regime.
For those still in prohibition states, just be careful and for those who live in legal states…why aren’t you growing.
