Why You Should Be Drinking Cannabis-Infused Honey Ginger Lemon Tea

Whether it’s flu season or not, honey ginger lemon tea has always been a staple in my kitchen. And I don’t mean the teabag variety – this is a pure homemade concoction that has saved me several times from the flu, cold, cough, and a nasty sore throat ever since I was a kid.

But when I began experimenting with cannabis for recreational and medical purposes as an adult, I discovered how the healing power of this simple but therapeutic drink can be made even better when combined with the benefits of cannabis. I usually drink 3-4 cups of this a day when a bug gets me bad, but with cannabis it’s much more potent and I space it out to two cups a day after 4-6 hours, depending on how I feel.

Oh, and have I mentioned that it’s also really delicious?? If you love ginger, honey, lemon, or all three, you’re in luck because this is not only a restorative drink but one whose taste you can adjust by adding more of your favorite ingredients for a better taste (luckily for me I already love all three!). It tastes so good that sometimes I drink it purely for the taste, especially on colder nights (sometimes I spike it with a little whiskey!).

Benefits of Honey Ginger Lemon Tea

  • Immune booster: This is one of the most natural immune-strengthening drinks you can feed your body. Ginger contains high levels of antioxidants, while lemon is a great source of Vitamin C which also has excellent healing properties of its own. When you take this drink at the onset of a flu, it works wonders as an antibiotic. Lemons also contain bioflavonoids that help prevent cancer, while its antioxidant content keeps inflammation at bay.

  • Nausea and respiratory health: Ginger is well-known for its nausea-fighting properties, and is even used to prevent motion sickness. Ginger also works well in fighting inflammation especially in the bronchial area, which is why it’s effective in knocking out flu, cough, and colds. When consumed hot, this drink is effective in cleaning mucus while soothing the irritation in your throat.

  • Painkiller: The honey content in this tea has painkilling properties. It also acts as a natural topical antibiotic that can assists in neutralizing bacteria found in your throat, further preventing bronchitis which can eventually lead to a cough or sore throat.

  • Antihistamine: Ginger contains antihistamine properties which is excellent for treating allergies, a common culprit for several respiratory problems including bronchitis and asthma.

  • Digestion: Pure lemon juice does wonders for the digestive system, especially when consumed in a warm or hot drink such as in this tea. Lemon juice is also a good cleansing agent and blood purifier, so drinking this after a meal can help you improve overall digestion.

  • Antibacterial: Lemon and honey both have antibacterial properties, which are helpful in fighting throat infections.

  • Antioxidant: Lemon juice helps fight free radicals that lead to aging, damage your cell structure, and leads to health problems such as heart disease, arthritis, and cancer. Lemons are also a great source of bioflavonoids that help you maintain good levels of vitamin C throughout the body.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of water
  • 3 inch ginger, sliced as thin as possible (or more, if you like it spicy)
  • juice of 1 lemon (or more)
  • 2 tablespoons of raw organic honey (or more)
  • 2 drops of cannabis tincture

  1. In a small saucepan, pour the water. Add the ginger slices, and bring it to a boil.
  2. Remove saucepan from heat, add the honey and lemon juice. Taste and adjust if needed.
  3. Let it rest for 20 minutes until warm enough to drink.
  4. Drink slowly to gradually allow the effects of the cannabis to show up. Take a second cup if you want, after the buzz has gone.

Don’t toss away the ginger in the saucepan; you can always add more water and reheat the ginger since it will still be potent up to 2 or 3 times after heating with water. If you love the taste of ginger like I do, you can also serve slices of the steeped ginger in your tea, as well as fresh lemon for more taste and potency.

You can also add a cinnamon stick to the saucepan.
