Is Cannabudder the same as Cannabutter?

what is cannabis butter or cannabis budder

There are quite a number of cannabis infusions out there. Something that we know very well by now is Cannabutter. But now we speak about Cannabudder. Do not get confused. It is not the same, even though it also has a similar soft consistency as the butter has. Marijuana has many concentrates with just as many different ways to do the extraction for the concentrate. The many different methods have their ups and downs, but all have ultimately the same focus. To create a concentrate high in THC.

Budder Explained in a Simple Way

Budder is a cannabis concentrate where the goal is to retain most of the weed’s terpenes. To recap, terpenes are compounds found in plants responsible for the smell and taste of the plant. Because budder is a concentrate that focuses on high levels of terpenes, it is one of the most flavorful concentrates. The name is derived from the creamy, yellowish consistency known to butter. When budder is made, it has to be thoroughly whipped. This is why it looks like butter. It is believed that budder is the most potent form of cannabis available, and also the cleanest.

Budder falls in the cannabis wax category, like honeycomb and crumble. Budder has a consistency that fits right in the middle of the two mentioned above. Honeycomb is light and airy and looks like it has been filled with air. It is also quite brittle. Crumble is just as the name says. It crumbles easily and can be broken apart with your hand. Budder is not quite as brittle or light as honeycomb, and it also doesn’t break apart as easily as crumble. It can’t easily be broken by hand, in fact, you need a dabber to break the part off you want to smoke. The only thing that all three waxes have in common is that they all use butane or CO2 extraction methods.

Budder is High in THC

Budder will have high levels of THC. It can be as high as 70%. The main attraction is the high preservation of terpenes. It keeps a significant percentage of the original terpene content. This renders the enhanced flavor and extra medicinal benefit. What makes it so potent is that it found a perfect balance between a high terpene content and a high cannabinoid content. This is very important for medicinal purposes. The synergy between cannabinoids and terpenes is particularly helpful for medicinal benefits. It also has a purity level of 99.6%. It has no toxins, heavy metals, molds, diseases, solvents or other contaminants.

It furthermore also contains cannabidiol and cannabinol. Cannabidiol (CBD) helps to moderate the effects of the THC level in budder.

The Difference between Budder and Shatter

Cannabis concentrates have many different textures from a viscous oil to a glass-like shatter. Shatter is a crystallized form of a concentrate. Shatter is very transparent and glass-like, where budder is rather opaque in color and creamier consistency. Shatter is also very high in THC. It normally has a range of about 80%. It has no terpenes though because, in the second extraction process, all fats, lipids, and waxes are removed.

How is Budder made?

To make budder, you need chemical solvents to blast through the marijuana to extract the THC.  Most commonly butane is used, but CO2, alcohol, and propane could also be used. When butane is used, it is very important to practice all safety measures. If you are not familiar with that, it is better to use other methods.

The fresh cannabis flower is packed in a sealed extraction tube. The sealed tube is held above a pyrex dish when the chemical solvent is introduced. The solvent extracts the plant compounds and has to be run through until the liquid runs clear. In the beginning, it is yellow, but the process will be done when the liquid is completely clear. Then the extraction process is done.

The liquid is now caught in the pyrex dish. The solvent has to be evaporated now. The dish has to placed on top of a saucepan with simmering water for the solvent to evaporate. There will be a gradual increase in the thickness of the liquid as the solvent evaporates.

Finishing it Up

The moment the bubbling stops, a waxy substance will remain. Scrape it to the middle of the bowl and place it over a saucepan filled with water. Heat it up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (93 degrees Celsius). This is necessary to refine and purge the solvent. When it is heated up, whip the wax profoundly to purge any remaining solvent. When the budder is hot, it works easier. The process will be done when the extract has a butter-like form. The extract is then placed in a vacuum oven to complete the purging of the butane or solvent used. It is normally done between 90 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit for about 24 to 72 hours at a pressure of 29 HG.

How to Store Budder

It has to be stored in an airtight container away from direct sunlight. Keep it in a cool environment.

How to Use Budder

Dabbing is the most common way, but it can also be used in edibles. It can also be added to a joint. Just remember, start slow and low. It is more potent than other concentrates.
