Comedy and cannabis go hand in hand. Throughout the years we have witnessed many comedians deliver hilarious thought provoking sets relating to marijuana and a handful of comedians that have based their entire act surrounding the sweet-sweet leaf.
Today we will take a look at some of the more memorable sets concerning cannabis in comedy. We won’t be placing them in any particular order because comparing comedians is like comparing buds; they all might get you high, but none of them are the same. That’s why I personally shy away from “top ten lists” when it comes to comedians because it truly is all about preference. So rather, I am going to list a few that have been Meme-ed and quoted excessively throughout social media and pop culture.
Bill Hicks – “Mandatory Marijuana”
There’s a couple of time-less comedians I refer to as prophets. Delivering “ever green” sets and dropping truth bombs throughout the act, these comedians help us question the official narrative so eloquently delivered by our “friendly authorities.” Bill Hicks was by far one of the most influential comedians that inspired many other comics to hit the stage.
In this spiel about the war on drugs, Bill Hicks points out the hypocrisy of our drug laws. Concluding that if he were to legalize a drug, it wouldn’t be alcohol…there are far better drugs out there for you…marijuana being on the top of his list.
Louis CK – “The Marijuana Ordeal”
Probably one of the hottest comedians of our times, Louis CK is not shy about talking about “sensitive issues.” He has a couple of skits about marijuana, however the “Marijuana Ordeal” bit was by far one of his funniest.
His angle that “he didn’t know that they working on it (weed) like it was the cure for cancer” was the perfect introduction to this hilarious skit. The following scene he describes hits home to many stoners who took one hit too many.
Like a buddy of mine who got so high he had to sit down for an hour with a blank expression on his face before he was able to walk with me for a few blocks. While this isn’t a common occurrence, there are times when smoking marijuana can be an “ordeal.”
Katt Williams – “If you ain’t got no job, and you aren’t smoking weed…”
Katt Williams is an outspoken comic that delivers his sets with a full throttle. His routines are frequently referencing weed however; in this clip I have listed he brings down the house. From what weed is to what it helps you with, this Katt Williams set is a slam dunk for anyone looking to laugh at some premium weed related content.
Dave Chapelle – “I stopped smoking weed…with black people”
Dave Chapelle was at one time the funniest man in the world and if you know his comedy, you’ll agree. In fact, Dave is the hero for many other comedians and while his name was smeared by the media, he still is one of the funniest comedians out there.
This epic set was one of his most memorable weed skits throughout his long career. While he also did movies like “Half Baked,” he was the king of stand up. This bit about him not smoking with black people anymore is one of the funniest weed related comedy bits on this selection. He’s got plenty of other ganja related skits out there, but I thought this one caught the mastery of his comedy quite perfectly.
Doug Benson – “Anti-Pot Commercial”
Doug Benson and cannabis are almost synonymous. From his movie “Super High Me” to his podcast “Getting Doug with High,” this stand-up comic has his entire persona based around weed. There are countless of weed-related clips I could go through, however the “Anti-Pot Commercial” bit is one of the best.
I recently wrote about the most ridiculous anti-marijuana PSA that failed and the sentiments Doug expresses about a clip where a teenage girl melts into the couch after smoking marijuana is spot on. Doug Benson is a prolific pot smoker and advocate of legalizing cannabis and his comedy sets are riddled with pot rhetoric.
Joe Rogan – “Why Pot is Illegal”
Joe Rogan wasn’t always a pot smoker, but when he first started smoking he became one of the most outspoken comics on the scene. He frequently references weed and is pretty much always baked when he does his podcast with the Death Squad.
This Comedy Central clip Joe talks about the reason why Pot is illegal and while he only mentions it for a short bit and goes on about how cannabis and masturbation is the best sleeping aid, I thought it was worth the mention.

While there are many other amazing comedians out there, if I don’t stop this post soon, I could end up writing a book. This selection of funny marijuana comics should give you a base course on all things “stoner comedy.”
