Cannabis Hash Used as Medicine for Ages

cannabis hash what is it

It is not new information that cannabis has been used for millennia. It is also not news that every part of the cannabis plant has a specific use. From the top of the plant to the bottom of the roots, cannabis has benefits and a lot of value. Most often, people focus on the flower of the plant, because that is where all the yumminess lies. The leaves often get used in smoothies and green superfoods. Some also think that hash is just another name for bud or flower. But they can not be further from the truth. Hash is its own unique product and it is used a bit differently than bud.

A Little History About Hash

The cannabis plant’s history stretches back thousands of years. Seeing that hash derives from the cannabis plant, it is, and always was incorporated in history. The first discovery of the cannabis plant comes from central Asia where it was vigorously included in agricultural societies. In the beginning, it was mostly used for fiber, cordage, and clothing. As the nomadic tribes started growing more hemp, the gradually discovered the other magical uses of cannabis.

It was in Central Asia and the Middle East where the idea to consume the potent resin that stuck to their fingers, originated. Obviously, it spread like a wildfire, and not long after, it made its way to Africa. Hash made history, as it was the only way to consume cannabis in the beginning. It was taken in an oral form. Smoking cannabis came much later. It was only when Columbus returned from the new world in the late 1400s, where it became a common thing.

Hash came to Europe after Marco Polo discovered it on his travels in the 1300s. It was only by the 1800s when cannabis became quite common in Europe. It was also then when the difference between medical and recreational usage became more prominent. The United States was the last to encounter cannabis. People joyfully used it as medicine and for recreational purposes until it was thrown under the Prohibition hammer.

What is Hash Exactly?

Hash is a waxy concentration created from the resin glands or trichomes from the cannabis plant. Traditionally, hash was produced by rubbing and pressing cannabis flower between the hands. The sticky resin was molded into balls, commonly known as Charas. Over time, the techniques became more refined, and mechanical agitation became more popular. In this method, cured plant material undergoes vigorous agitation over a sieve to collect the trichomes. The stick collection gets heated up and pressed into a sticky dark block of concentration.

A more modern way lately, is the freezing of fresh plant material. Freezing fresh plant material preserves the potency of the plant and allows the breaking off of the trichomes more easily. Ice water and agitation are used to allow the trichomes to sink to the bottom. Different meshes of different sizes are then used to filter it out. Bubble hash is such a product.

Solvents like butane or ethanol are also used to refine it further. This creates an extremely potent concentrate, called simply hash oil.

How is it Used for Medicinal Purposes?

Like many parts of cannabis, hash has its place in your medical cupboard. There are a few ways to use it:

Smoke – Smoke hash by using pipes or papers.

Vape – vaporize pure hash by putting it in a vape pen

Dabbing- patients who need intense and immediate relief would benefit greatly from dabbing. Dabbing involves heating up the hash on a nail. The vapors are then inhaled by using a pipe

Eat – hash could be added to your food like any other cannabis oil. Potent edibles can be made to relieve chronic pain and anxiety.

In earlier times, the concentrated hash was consumed to induce visions and lead to several altered states of consciousness. But in modern times, the dose is more controlled, especially for medicinal purposes. It has a very relaxed and sedated effect and is helpful to control anxiety. Because it is so potent, it is not recommended for people with underlying mental disorders like schizophrenia. This is more important when the hash is THC-rich rather than CBD-rich.

The Perks of Hash

If you prefer to use hash for your medical treatment, you are in for a treat. There are some perks to hash that otherwise might not be experienced. Some of these perks include:

Stronger effect – hash has a high concentration of cannabinoids. Less is needed to reach the desired effect.

More THC – If THC is needed for your medicinal needs, hash is a perfect choice. Again, use it moderately as it is very potent.

Be careful if you are a beginner. Because it so concentrated, it does not allow for much error. Too much will have not such great effects.

Afterthoughts

Can hash be used medically? Yes, indeed. Just take certain precautions seriously. If you are not used to hash, learn about how to use it in detail.
