Healthy Cannabis Gummy Bear Recipe
Medical Cannabis Gummy Bear Recipe (DIY) from CannabisNet on Vimeo.
Many cannabis users are fans of eating the stuff rather than smoking it. There’s definitely been an increased interest on cannabis edibles these days, especially for medical patients.
But edibles have just so many benefits for both recreational and medical users. It’s even a good way to save the THC from defective bud or trim which would otherwise go to waste since it isn’t good enough to smoke. Despite all the benefits of consuming versus smoking cannabis, there’s still a lot of controversy today about how much to take. Dosage is a hot topic, especially since we’re all too familiar with the feeling of consuming too many pot brownies and feeling like you’ve totally been dislodged from reality.
Speaking of pot brownies… the quintessential edible, the most famous way of eating cannabis. The cliché way of eating cannabis. There’s SO MUCH more you can do with edibles, and just one trip to any dispensary can show you that. But I have to say that cannabis gummy bears is just the cutest, most delicious way to get those cannabinoids into your system.
Use a low-dose cannabis tincture to prevent those “I’m too high!” moments (more like hours?). These taste great and can also help you manage your doses at the same time, especially if you’re a fan of microdosing. In fact, I think more people should experiment with microdosing when it comes to edibles. The line between “just right” and “too much” is just way too thin, but using low-dose tinctures is a great way to waltz around that line. You will need some time and lots of experimentation for you to find the best microdose that works for you. It’s always best to wait around 20 minutes before you take another bite of any edible, even if it’s as small as gummy bears because these little babies can still be pretty potent.
Tools You’ll Need
Making homemade cannabis gummy bears is easy, and you’ll only need a few tools including the mold, measuring cups/spoons, and a saucepan. The mold is the most important tool. You can even use molds that are designed for making chocolate. Silicone molds are ideal for the job because it helps making the candies pop out much easier when they’re done, but if you have metal or plastic molds lying around you can use those too.
Gelatin is also a primary ingredient, and this recipe isn’t suitable for vegetarians. Gelatin is made from some animal byproducts but if you want to make a vegetarian recipe you can substitute it with agar powder, a natural thickener made from plants that is safe for vegetarians to consume. Agar powder makes a good substitute for both flavored and unflavored gelatin. Other natural ingredients can also be used to color and flavor the gummy bears.
Choose a gummy bear mold of your choice (you don’t even have to limit it to just bears; there are worms and those are fun too!). Here are some links to gummy bear molds on Amazon that will work perfectly fine with this recipe:

When it comes to flavoring, you can choose to go with pureed fruits but there’s also the option of using your favorite juice. Using juice to make cannabis gummy bears will make it sweeter since you will need to add ½ tablespoon more gelatin. If you don’t know what juice to use, try using different berries, oranges, and grapes.
Recipe
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons honey, maple syrup, or sweetener of your choice
2/3 cup juice or pureed berries
3 teaspoons of cannabis tincture
Combine all ingredients over medium-low heat on a saucepan. Gently whisk in 3 tablespoons of gelatin until it reaches a smooth consistency and all the ingredients blend well together. Then you can turn off the heat, and use the dropper to fill the mold with the mixture. Let the tray cool for around 5 minutes in the freezer. Enjoy!
Storage
Store-bought gummy bears are made with preservatives, but with homemade recipes there are none. The best way to store leftover cannabis gummy wears is by keeping them in an airtight plastic Tupperware or sandwich bag in the refrigerator. If the gummies stick together, sprinkle a pinch of cornstarch or powdered sugar and shake them before storing again.
