Cannabis Massage Oil Recipe
Massage therapy has been used by ancient cultures because of its proven medicinal benefits.
The very first written records discussing the benefits of massage therapy were found in China and Egypt back in 2700 BCE. Today, we have a wide range of different kinds of massage therapies available to us, but combining the healing power of cannabis with the therapeutic benefits of cannabis is one of the most potent ways to alleviate sore muscles, reduce pain, and get rid of stress.
Cannabis massages are an excellent way to relax both body and mind. Just in case you’re wondering; you won’t get high off a cannabis massage because the THC content in the oil can’t enter your bloodstream. But don’t dismiss the idea just yet – here are some of the amazing health benefits of using cannabis massage oils:
Anti-inflammatory: Using a CBD-rich massage oil is a potent anti-inflammatory, providing effective relief for a sore back and muscles, arthritis, joint pain, and other injuries.
Muscle relaxation: Cannabis-infused massage oils are effective at stimulating your skin to remove pain and tension underneath. If you suffer from stiff muscles caused by exercise or sitting in front of a computer too much, this will do wonders for your body.
Supports skin health: Using cannabis-infused coconut or almond oil contains fatty acids as well as other compounds that help keep skin supple, soft, and healthy.
In some states such as Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, it’s become increasingly more common to find spas that cater to a 420-friendly massage experience. However, if you make your own cannabis oil at home, you can give yourself (or your partner) highly therapeutic massages anytime you need it in the privacy of your own home.
Recipe
Ingredients:
-
14 grams of cannabis bud
-
125 ml coconut or almond oil
-
essential oils (optional)
Equipment:
-
double boiler
-
sterilized dark colored glass jar
-
cheese cloth
-
funnel
-
mitts
Method:
-
Set up the double boiler to get hot. Grind the cannabis buds until it reaches a fine, rough powdery texture.
-
Pour your oil of choice on top of the double boiler, then add the ground cannabis bud.
-
Place your stove on medium heat. Allow the cannabis to infuse into the oil for at 2-3 hours, stirring regularly. This process will decarboxylate the cannabis and activate the THC and CBD content.
-
After 2-3 hours, use the mitts to carefully pour the oil through the cheesecloth, passing the funnel and into the glass jar. The oil will be very hot at this point and can burn the skin, so make sure that you’re wearing your mitts. Squeeze the cheesecloth to get out as much oil as possible.
-
Let the jar of oil stand until it cools.
Optional steps: Adding essential oils
Not everyone likes smelling like weed after a massage, but you can easily solve this by adding essential oils. You can add 5 drops of your favorite essential oil scents, or you can try one of these combinations:
For Women
-
4 drops rose geranium essential oil
-
2 drops bergamot essential oil
-
3 drops lavender essential oil
-
2 drops marjoram essential oil
For Men
-
2 drops frankincense essential oil
-
4 drops cedar wood essential oil
-
2 drops orange essential oil
-
6 drops sandalwood essential oil
-
2 drops vetiver essential oil
Mind and Body Relaxation
-
7 drops frankincense essential oil
-
7 drops orange essential oil
-
4 drops marjoram essential oil
-
2 drops vetiver essential oil
-
1 drop ylang ylang or jasmine essential oil
Whichever combination you choose, combine it in your dark colored glass bottle or jar. The massage oil can be applied to the skin in room temperature, or slightly heated. This cannabis massage oil can be used as soon as it’s cooled, although it’s better if you make it stand overnight in a cool, dry place. If you want to warm up the oil, simply place the bottle in a glass bowl with hot water. Rub the oil on tight shoulders, sore joints, or any part of your body that could use a little TLC.
