Tricks And Techniques to Get High Yield Cannabis Plants When You’re Tight On Space

How Do You Grow a Marijuana Plant in a Small Closet? from CannabisNet on Vimeo.

Are you a cannabis enthusiast who wishes to grow your weed but don't have a large space? You don't need to worry because cannabis is a very eager plant. It can be grown in almost any room size or environment as long as it is provided with the correct amount of light and nutrients. This particular trait makes it quite easy to grow without much fuss or smell and contrary  to what most growers think implementing this is relatively straightforward.

Growing cannabis in a small space does not automatically translate to small yield, with the right technique the space can be maximized to get high and efficient yields. A couple of the most effective tricks you can employ to achieve this include:

Your Seeds

Proper research needs to be done before getting your seeds as different cannabis strains have their specific traits and growth methods. It is also important to get high-quality seeds as these produce the best buds.

Grow Space

There are certain things that all grow spaces have in common no matter their size

Adequate growth space: To ensure high yields, the plant needs to have sufficient space to grow especially in terms of height as this will also ensure the lights are kept off the plants.

Ventilation: For a healthy and well-grown plant, it is essential to have adequate fresh air. This is usually more important for those grown in small spaces thus it might be necessary to get an AC unit or heater to help with this depending on your surroundings.

Sterilization: Proper hygiene is essential to the growth of your plant thus your grow space must be clean and free from all impediments for growth.

Lighting

Lighting is one major concern for any cannabis grower especially small space growers, it calls for considerable concern. This is because grow lights are usually very hot and need to be kept at a safe distance from the plants to prevent the burning of the leaves or buds. To achieve this, the lights should be elevated (this can be difficult to achieve in a small space) or the plants be kept short though pruning or topping.

The recent introduction of LEDs has aided small space cannabis growth as it provides full-spectrum light with reduced heat. This reduces the prospect of damage to the plant even if it is close to the light while reducing the need for any temperature control equipment. Thus allowing the plants to grow and in return have a higher yield at harvest.

Plant Training

It is quite possible to train your plants to increase their yields even in a small space. This can be done with effective methods such as:

Scrogging (screen of green):  It is probably the most effective method to get you high yields with minimal space. Scrogging involves putting the branches of your plant through a screen and weaving the stalks to open up the plant and enable its lower branches to receive more light. This creates a canopy filled with big colas while everything below the canopy is pruned to conserve energy thus increasing the plant yield.

High-stress training (HST): It is an aggressive method of increasing plant yield by super cropping or topping to increase cola sites and create an even canopy.

Low-stress training (LST): It creates additional cola sites from offshoots by tying down some parts of the plant.

Healthy Roots

Roots are the plant's growth medium, sending water and nutrients to the rest of the plant. It is therefore important that the roots are healthy to ensure the plant grows efficiently even in a small space.

There are super or complete soils in the market which have most the nutrients a plant needs and also helps store enough water for the plant. On the other hand, you can give your plants nutrients at each stage of growth to ensure high yields. It is recommended that the nutrients are rich in potassium and phosphorus but low in nitrogen.

Also, it is best to ensure that your roots are not exposed or bound by putting in enough soil and transplanting to a bigger pot when necessary.

Right Climate

The right temperature and humidity are very essential for cannabis plants especially those in limited spaces because even the slightest change can have severe effects on the plant. This is one of the reasons why LED lights are recommended for small space cannabis growers as they help in keeping temperatures low enough for the plants to grow.

On average, the preferred temperature for your plants should be Seedlings –  65-75°F. Adult plants with lighting – 80°F. Adult plants without lighting – 62-72°F

Despite this, fresh air is still needed to ensure that the plant grows well with the right temperature and humidity to give you high yields.

Bottom line

On a final note, your plants need all the care and love you can give if you want them to grow healthily and give high yields and this is why it is necessary to monitor them at every step of the way.
