How to Make Cannabis Stem Tea

CANNABIS STEM TEA

If you’re one of those stoners that simply throw their stems away, you’re missing out of the “complete cannabis experience”. The cannabis plant is a marvel of nature. Absolutely every part of the plant has some value it can give to a user.

Cannabis stems are still packed with plenty of cannabinoids and a bit of resin from the buds. This means, that if you save up enough cannabis stems, you can use that for a wide array of things.

One thing you can do with your cannabis stems that require little to no effort is to make a topical disinfectant. To do this, just get high proof alcohol and throw your stems in there. Over time, your stems will release all of the cannabinoids and will infuse itself with the alcohol.

The next time you have a scrape or a mosquito bite, just rub a bit of the topical on your affected area and let the cannabinoids do its magic.

You can also make hemp rope and a bunch of other things from the stems as well. Today however, we’re going to be talking about my favorite thing to do with marijuana stems…make some tea.

Does a Marijuana Stem Tea make you high?

Indeed, it can! It’s not the most potent tea you can get your hands on, but if you have enough stems lying around you can definitely make something that can get you high. Below, I’ll jump a bit more into the details on how you can go about to make your cannabis stem tea.

How high? Well, that depends on the density of the infusion. Using a small bundle of stems will probably not get you high. You might experience the calming effects of the tea but you won’t be rolling on the floor high.

Increase the amount of the stems and you get a stronger infusion. We’ll talk more about proportions a bit further down.

How to Make Cannabis Stem Tea

Now that you know that the stems can get you high, let’s show you how its done.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to decarboxylate the THC on the stems. If you don’t want to get high, you can skip this part.

Nonetheless, we recommend that you take your stems and that you crush them up or even grind them. Yes, grind them!

Then, take the grounded stems and lay it in an oven-ready tray and preheat your oven to 170º F. Insert the grounded-stem mixture into the oven for about 15 minutes.

Remove and prepare for the next phase of infusion.

In the next phase you’ll want to bind the cannabinoids with a binding agent. Typically, people use high-fat butter or coconut oil. You simply have to melt the butter or coconut oil (equal parts to the stems) and let it simmer on low heat for about 20-30 minutes.

This is enough to infuse the cannabinoids into the base. The longer you wait during this phase, the more infusion occurs. It’s really up to you how strong you want to make it. I recommend experimenting.

Once you’ve completed the infusion portion, you’ll want to separate the plant material from the mixture. Do this by straining it all through a piece of cheesecloth. You need to be careful because the transference needs to be done when the mixture is still hot and liquid.

Now that you have your cannabis infusion set aside, you can literally make any tea you wish and add a table spoon or two of your infusion to the mix. Add your own flavors and experiment with taste.

I recommend making Chai-type teas as they taste the best and hide the oily membrane of the infusion. Teas like English Breakfast and so forth also work, it’s just that there’s a visible film of oil on top of the water. Essentially, you’re drinking the “oil” with the tea.

With Chai teas, the mix is simply better. I also recommend using high-fat milk when you’re making the chai tea as it will help with the taste profile.

Let’s talk proportions

So how many stems would you need? Well, as mentioned it comes down to your personal preference. How strong do you want the infusion to be?

I recommend that you start off with about a gram of stems to start off with. This will be very mild for your average consumer. Work your way up until you find the magical sweet spot where the stem tea gets you ‘kind of’ high.

I also recommend using measuring cups because it helps you with future infusions. You’ll know exactly how much to use because you have a data pool to pull from.

Making Cannabis Stem Tea isn’t the most potent way of getting high…hell, it’s not even the most convenient. But if you ever run out of weed and want to get baked…having some infused Stem Oil might be your ticket to getting your buzz on.
