CBD OIL FOR PAIN MANAGMENT, BUT DO YOU NEED THC?

Pain is the damage indicator of our body which helps us identify a problem. However, it is still a ‘pain’ to deal with. Painkillers help, but our bodies adapt and become immune to its effects. Unsurprisingly, many resorts to illegal drugs like marijuana, LSD, heroin and cocaine to escape this atrocious reality, and risk addiction.

So what can you do? Get CBD oil! There is a wave of medical marijuana spreading across the world at the moment. This wonder medicine is available as CBD oil, which is supposed to ease your pain into oblivion.

What’s this CBD oil and how does it work?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It is a just one subclass of the six major chemical compounds called ‘cannabinoids’ present in the cannabis plant. These cannabinoids have equally different effects on the neural receptors in our bodies. The sub-class which induces that psychoactive euphoria is actually tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), along with cannabinol (CBN), cannabinodiol (CBDL) and some others with varying levels of strengths.

Research has shown that CBD has extremely weak psychoactive effects as opposed to THC. You see, THC stimulates the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the human body directly to produce excess dopamine.

It’s what makes you think you are a Kryptonian flying across a rainbow-colored world, performing superhuman feats. But CBD does not do that. It acts indirectly and enhances the effectiveness of the ECS instead.

“What has it got to do with pain relief?!”

Pain is regulated by a compound known as anandamide, which is present in our bloodstream as a part of the ECS. Lower levels of anandamide result in increased pain, whereas higher levels reduce it. CBD alters the ability of our body to break it down, thereby increasing its level in the bloodstream, and reducing pain as the final result.

It is this very characteristic which has made it so popular. Usually, the resin in cannabis and hemp contains a mixture of all these cannabinoids. But CBD makes up almost 40 percent of the total composition.  This makes it easy to extract the raw material and suspend it in a suitable oil base for conversion into a usable form.

It does have some side effects, but which medicine doesn’t? You may feel         little nausea, sleeping disorders or irritability. Some other side effects include diarrhea, tiredness and abnormal appetite followed by a weight loss or gain. But these are largely dependent on the purity of CBD oil and dosage.

What kind of pain can CBD oil relieve?

CBD oil has long been used to relieve pain before the medical community recognized it for its effectiveness. Journal of Experimental Medicine has proved that it reduces inflammation too. This means that ailments such as arthritis, chronic pain and multiple sclerosis should cause a lot less trouble to the victims using CBD oil.

It is also showing immense potential when applied to the following cases:

  • Epilepsy (Lennox Gastaut Syndrome and Dravet Syndrome)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Anxiety
  • Seizures
  • Withdrawal from drugs and smoking

And that’s not all. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has also indicated that CBD oil can be used for effective reduction in cancerous tumors, and treatment or stabilization of side effects accompanying chemotherapy!

It’s made from Cannabis. So, is it legal?

As of October 2018, the feds are still imposing a ban on CBD even though the FDA has approved it for treatment of epilepsy. However, DEA has moved CBD oil to schedule V of the Controlled Substances Act. So, the only ones in trouble would be the traffickers and importers, not you.

Although, many states in the US have recognized the value of CBD and altered their laws regarding its use. However, if you want to know if it is legal in your state, you can visit the NORML website and double check before making a decision.

To Use or Not to Use, That is the Question

The thing about CBD oil is that it still lies in the gray area, just like olive leaf extract. Many people swear by its benefits, but it still hasn’t got the FDA approval. So you may buy CBD oil products, but there’s a high chance of getting duped or ripped off. If you can get genuine products, you might be able to alleviate your pain and lead a comfortable existence for the most part, so there’s no harm in trying.
