How to Pick Good Quality CBD Oil
Curiosity about CBD products has increased in recent years, specifically for how they can help with various health and wellness issues. Even with limited legalization, marijuana was still a $10 billion industry in 2018 and will grow by several times that in the coming years.
In recent years there has been a far greater movement to legalize marijuana and hemp production, as well as the sale of products derived from them. More and more states are legalizing them at least in a medical capacity, while others are pushing for complete legalization.
Some CBD oil is completely legal to purchase, without any medical license or prescription required. However, just because it’s easy to buy CBD oil doesn’t mean you should just get the first product you find. The industry is relatively new but growing very fast, and that means it’s easy to find a lot of low quality products if you don’t do your due diligence.
If you want very good quality CBD oil, here are some questions you need to ask before you buy anything.
What’s the THC Content?
Remember how we said that some CBD is completely legal to buy? Whether or not it is subject to marijuana laws depends on its THC content. THC is the compound in cannabis plans that is psychoactive, which is what makes you feel high.
Any CBD product derived from a plant that has more than 0.3% THC content will face far greater regulations and restrictions in sales. You want to make sure you don’t purchase anything illegal by accident, especially if you’re shopping online from a different state or country.
You also want to be careful about whether the CBD is cultivated from a marijuana plant, or a hemp plant. The former is typically more potent, which will be an important distinction for anyone who wants CBD for its various medical benefits.
Were There Harmful Contaminants in the Soil?
Both marijuana and hemp plants are very absorbent. If it is grown in low quality soil or sprayed with pesticides, it will absorb more of the harmful chemicals, metals, and other contaminants into the plant itself. When the plant is cultivated to produce CBD oil, it will pass on some of those contaminants.
This is where quality is very important for when you are shopping around for CBD, as you do not want to buy CBD oil that makes you sick or causes negative side effects. That’s why you should be very cautious if not outright avoid any CBD products sold from overseas or states outside of Colorado and Oregon — unless the manufacturer is willing to share a Certificate of Analysis.
Most companies that make CBD will perform spot tests of their plants as they are growing to show things like THC or CBD levels, as well as measuring the levels of any contaminants. Avoid buying any CBD oil if you cannot obtain their COA to see this information. There are plenty of companies that will do so willingly, so there’s no sense in taking the risk on an unknown product.
Once you can answer these two questions with a clear “yes!”, you’ve found a worthy CBD oil product to take to your heart’s content.
