Study Says Microdosing Cannabis Is The Key To Great Sex

Sex on weed is one of the best things in life, but now the medical community has discovered how much pot you need to get the most out of this experience.

Writers at Global News Canada talks to Missouri gynecologist Becky Kaufman Lynn, who says that her patients wanted more information about how cannabis impacts their sex life. She reported that her patients would claim the drug would ease pain during sex, or improve their sexual health. They just weren’t sure how.

Lynn, a teacher at the Saint Louis University medical school, tried to look for answers by reading up on it. However, she realized that there’s almost no scientific data on the topic. So she took matters into her own hands by starting a research study onto it. The participants reported that the 1 in 10 who used cannabis before sex said that it made the experience more enjoyable. In that group, around three quarters say that it consistently made sex more pleasurable. On the other hand, only one participant said that cannabis made sex less enjoyable.

“The majority of women who said that they mixed sex and cannabis said that the sexual experience was improved, orgasms were improved, the libido was improved, pain was improved, and lubrication really didn’t change,” she explains.

“There are a variety of ideas as to why. One is that it lowers your anxiety and stress, it gives you a little bit more confidence in your sexual ability. Or it may slow down your perception of time and heighten the sensation.”

The article also includes feedback from Ashley Manta, a sex educator from California. “I have had it be really effective for days when my stress level is off the charts and I can’t turn off my brain and I want to just make those spinning gears stop so that I can be present with my partner. Cannabis really helps me get out of my head and actually get present in my body.”

Global News also spoke to experts, all of whom cautioned against using too much cannabis, which can backfire in between the sheets. “At really high doses of cannabis, people can withdraw enough into their own head that they essentially forget what they are doing, and it’s no longer a mutual experience, and often just ceases to happen,” explains Boston doctor Jordan Tishler. “Sexuality occurs most between the ears. It’s a mental and emotional thing. People get very fixated on genitalia, but that’s only the end result. A lot of things have to go right for it to work,” he says.

Recently, researchers from Stanford conducted the biggest study known to date about cannabis and sex. They assessed sexual frequency among users and compared it to those who abstained. It involved three aspects with data taken from the National Survey of Family Growth during the years 2002, 2006-2010, and 2011-2015. They were able to obtain information from 22,943 men and 28,176 women with an average age of 30. They compared findings from those who abstained cannabis; they found that men who consumed cannabis on a weekly basis say that they get more sex, while sex is up for 34% of women who use it weekly. Among the participants who consumed cannabis more than weekly, their sexual frequency spiked even more. However, there was no feedback on whether cannabis actually enhanced sex but this may be inferred with the findings.

Interestingly, another study called “Masturbation to Orgasm Stimulates the Release of the Endocannabinoid 2-Arachidonoylglycerol in Humans” discusses the link between orgasms and the production of an endocannabinoid, one that resembles those found in the cannabis plant. Researchers discover that healthy people who engage in masturbation until they orgasm had higher levels of 2-AG, which is an endocannabinoid cousin of THC. This led the researchers to believe that 2-AG contributes to the reward aspect surrounding sexual activity and orgasms.

Conclusion

Microdosing offers a host of great therapeutic benefits, and now it’s also shown to be promising for the bedroom. Essentially, a microdose would be below 5mg and below for THC content. You can experiment by starting with this amount yet keeping in mind that everyone has a different tolerance to cannabis. Even if you’ve been smoking regularly for a long time, keep in mind that the point of this is to consume an amount so small that you’ll barely feel its effects. Trust us, once things get steamy, you’ll notice a difference.
