The Reason Why God is a Libertarian-Anarchist and Loves Weed
And so sayeth the Lord, “Thou Shalt Get Blitzed!”
Many religious God-fearing folk would strongly disagree with me, however, if you take a closer look at the “Good Book”, you’ll realize that God – the Creator of Everything – is a staunch libertarian with anarchist tendencies.
“But isn’t God dead?” a materialist shouts from the back.
Nope, in fact, God is a shapeshifter and takes on anything that you worship but that’s another story. Even if you don’t believe in God per se, “God” is real for many people and for some so much so that they pursuit public office and change laws to suit “God’s laws”.
This was one of the primary motivations behind drug prohibition – or rather, one of the primary mechanisms for manipulating the will of the people to enact a document that essentially enslaves them to the state. (i.e The Controlled Substance Act)
This is why I decided to write about God today and make the argument for his Libertarian-anarchist views on reality in order to reach some of these “God fearing folk”. Additionally, I heard Donald Trump was talking to his cult following talking about “death penalty for drug dealers” and that the crowds were cheering – so I think it’s a good time to start reminding people of the values of God prior to running about murdering people in his name.
Why God Loves Weed!
Every Stoner knows the passage in the Bible where God created all the “seed-baring plants” and said that it was “Good”. It was Genesis 1:11-12 if you didn’t know.
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day. – The Bible
This is by far the best evidence to suggest that God loves weed – after all, he did create it at least according to the Genesis myth. The reason I chose this particular reference is because in a large part of the world the Christian (whether Catholic or Christian) has the bible at the center of their ideological motivations.
Therefore, if God created something that is inherently “good”, then why would anyone outlaw it, prohibit it, and wage war against the people who use it?
That seems like the Devil’s work!
Now, some might counter this argument by quoting another part of the bible in the New Testament where they say,
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. – 1 Peter 5:8
But in context, Peter is talking about alcohol and not about cannabis. In fact, cannabis is only mentioned (potentially) in the Bible as an ingredient in their Holy Anointing Oils. You know, the same oil that is used to anoint kings and even Jesus.
It turns out that there is an alleged scholarly basis for this bogus belief, namely, that the Hebrew words qaneh-bosem in Exod 30:23 refer to marijuana, or, more specifically, hemp. And note the apparent similarity in the words: qaneh-bosem and cannabis. That proves it, right?
According to the Herb Museum website, it was in 1936 that a little-known Polish professor named Sara Benetowa (later Sula Benet) wrote, “The sacred character or Hemp in biblical times is evident from Exodus 30:22- 23, where Moses was instructed by God to anoint the meeting tent and all its furnishings with specially prepared oil, containing hemp.” - Source
Of course, God didn’t instruct the priests to roll doobies – however, they did anoint kings and holy people with a psychoactive oil. Not to mention, the epidermis is covered with endocannabinoid receptors and considering that 6 pounds of weed was used in their concoction, can you imagine just how shit-faced you would get being doused with it?
The results would probably an epic green out where you meet God while thinking you died after being submerged in cannabis oil! Not to mention what the “set and setting” would do to a person’s mind on the verge of diving into psychedelia – you’re definitely meeting God!
Back to Peter…
Most of the references of intoxication in the Bible refers to alcohol…not cannabis. Cannabis isn’t mentioned because back in the day – it was standard goods like tomatoes are today. Believe it or not, cannabis is foundational to the modernization of humankind and has been walking alongside of our global society since the dawn of modern civilization.
It only really became “illegal” when puritans were duped into believing that “inferiors” were using it and that it was dangerous for society. The lie the devil sold them to separate them from a plant that connects them with their God.
Pretty devious if you ask me!
God the Libertarian
Surely God is a God of order and hierarchy! This is what most people think when they analyze the traditional views of God via a religious lens. However, when we go back to Genesis we see that God gave people free will.
When God created Adam and Eve, he gave them “conditions” but also gave them the freedom to obey or disobey. Adam and Eve eventually broke the “terms of agreement” of the Garden of Eden and thus God banned them from the garden.
However, God did NOT force them to comply. He created a condition of engagement, and then let the people decide what they wanted to do. The same message is later reiterated in Deuteronomy,
Surely, this commandment that I am commanding you today is not too hard for you, nor is it too far away…See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today, by loving the Lord your God, walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees, and ordinances, then you shall live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you do not hear, but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall perish…I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live…. (Deut. 30:11–19) - Source
At no point did God say, “YOU MUST!” except for in the 10-commandments and those are essentially guidelines to follow “his way”. Yet, once again – no force applied.
This is the most libertarian thing ever. God is like, “Live by these principles and you’ll get good shit but if you don’t then you probably won’t!”
And then, God doesn’t do anything anymore. He lets people decide what is good for them and what is not. Of course, according to the myth of Christianity by NOT abiding by God’s laws, you’re going to hell!
And it’s this fear that the religious institutions use to create policies that steal your God Given Free Will. You see, “for your safety” or “for the sake of maintaining purity” these religious shills utilize the word of God to justify restricting your rights. This was at the least a foundational aspect of prohibition in the early days.
As the world became less religious, the arguments shifted away from Bible Logic and entered into the realm of “safety logic” where the individual is either too stupid or incompetent to make a sound decision about what they wish to put into their own bodies.
In fact, within the materialistic world “The Government” is God and if the pandemic showed us anything, it’s all based on the religion of Scientism.
Nonetheless, we can clearly see that when it comes to Free Will, God has his rules but he certainly doesn’t impose them. For that there’s the fear of hell.
God the Anarchist
There’s a wonderful paper written by Shawn Ford in 1995 where he makes the argument that Jesus was indeed aligned with the views of modern anarchism.
He writes, “Anarchists long for a government-less society whose people have considerable amounts of freedom [what is this?]. However, this is the end result of a social process based on mutual aid, love, and respect. As Nicolas Walter put it in his 1969 essay About Anarchism, “Anarchism is an ideal type which demands at the same time total freedom and total equality” (Ehrlich et al. 43). Years earlier Michael Bakunin said basically the same thing in his Revolutionary Catechism of 1866: “The freedom of each is therefore realizable only in the equality of all. The realization of freedom through equality, in principle and in fact, is justice” (Damico 22) [is equality and justice the same?]. Bakunin linked freedom not only with equality and justice, but also with love: “…love for humanity is linked with human fulfillment in freedom. It is not only the duty of respect for others that makes freedom possible, but it is also something over and above, which is love” (Damico 22).
I will go a step further in my definition of anarchism by noting the two types of anarchism: that of the individualist and that of the revolutionaries [is Jesus both?]. Individualists, also known as egoists, are more concerned with their own freedom and their own fate in life than the rest of society’s. The revolutionaries’ concern, according to Linda Damico in The Anarchist Dimension of Liberation Theology, “…is freedom for the individual, but it is not freedom for the isolated individual. It (freedom) is possible only when the freedom of every individual is embraced” (21). In his essay Modern Science and Anarchism, Peter Kropotkin believes the same when he says that the individual is free “in proportion as all others around him become free” (Damico 21). Bakunin was adamant on this very position in God and the State when he “recognized that freedom is bound to society and can only exist in a social situation” (Damico 20). This paper will be concerned with revolutionary anarchism, also referred to as social (or communal) anarchism. Revolutionary should not be construed in this context as violence, but rather a popular movement that effects a radical change. Social anarchism carries with it the hope that eventually enough people will know, understand, and practice anarchist philosophy so that society itself will be transformed into a network of free federations comprised of free individuals.

Anyhow, he continues on providing examples on how Jesus aka God incarnate, behaved very similar to modern anarchists.
Now that I have defined the type of anarchist I believe Jesus Christ was [have you? big jump!], Let us look at his message to see if there are any grounds to this assertion. For the purpose of this paper, I will divide his message into five parts: morals, equality, elevating the poor and oppressed, being an example to society, and his attitudes towards earthly hierarchy. I will be using text as taken directly from the Holy Bible.
Jesus stressed the idea of living a morally pure life. The book of Matthew is full of his examples, the most important of them being Matthew 22:37: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” From this statement we can easily [maybe not as easy as you think!] understand his views on forgiveness, judgment, and murder.
On murder Jesus said two things that made his point: “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment’…” (Matthew 5:21); and “Put your sword back in its place…for all who draw the sword will die by the sword…” (Matthew 26:52) [murder? self-defense?]. It appears that Jesus does not approve at all of this most violent act.
Regarding judgment, Jesus stresses tolerance in Matthew 7:1-2: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” This is consistent with anarchist beliefs of authority and freedom. Instead of judging your fellow human, Jesus advocates ‘turning the cheek’ and “…Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” in Matthew 5. – Shawn Ford, Jesus Christ the Anarchist

As you can see, Jesus aka God, doesn’t force you to do anything. As an enlightened being, Jesus came to earth as an example to follow and if you look at his life, he was always working “outside” of the law even though he also “rendered unto Caesar what is Caesars”. In other words, he recognized that there were power structures in the world, and in a way paid his dues of participation – but within his life he lived “outside of the norms”. He was building his own empire…and empire of the heart and soul.
The point is that God is an Anarchist because he sent his only begotten Son to come fuck shit up for the establishment which - like many real anarchists of the past – got him crucified.
