What are Cannabis Hyperlapses and Why is it so Freaking Awesome!

CANNABIS HYPERLAPSE

Every now and then the cannabis community provides us with can only be known as “cannabis porn”. Not literally porn, but something so appealing to the eye, it might get you aroused.

Today, I’m going to be sharing with you something that I have been starting to experiment with on a small scale – Hyperlapses. More importantly, awesome cannabis hyperlapses.

What is a Hyperlapse?

You have heard about Time-lapses. A time-lapse is a static shot that compiles multiple frames and compresses them to show you a “sped-up” version of the events. Your camera has the ability to Timelapse.

A hyper-lapse occurs when you add motion to the time-lapse and it’s absolutely mesmerizing to look at. If you want to experiment and make your own hyperlapse, simply go to your camera on your phone and select “time lapse”.

Press record and start walking [while holding your camera as stable as possible] for about 100 ft. Once it’s done, press play!

You’ve done your first hyperlapse.

Now, a hyperlapse is all cool and dandy…but it becomes even more delicious when you apply cannabis to it.

The Best Cannabis Hyperlapse EVER!

An Oregon Dispensary hired photographer Erik Christiansen to compose Hyperlapses of their cannabis strains. The result was pure magic. Using more than 50,000 frames and compiling them into one smooth animated sequence, you get to experience cannabis like you have never experienced it before.

Christiansen created an effect called a “HyperZoom” which magnifies the plant allowing you to see the resin glands on the buds itself. It’s like jumping into a universe of awesomeness!

Within a period of a few months, these videos generated millions of views making it a marketing tactic for the ages.

Only now, are the rest of the marketing community seeing the powerful effects of hyperlapses within their marketing efforts. But we have to commend the dispensary for taking it to a whole new level.

There are some other attempts at the same style of hyperlapsing cannabis strains online, but Erik Christiansen’s hyperlapses are on a completely new level. The level of high-definition photography and seemless editing makes it a work of art.

People get to appreciate the cannabis strain on a much more intimate level. Seeing the trichomes, pistils and color profile up close and personal.

Why are Cannabis Hyperlapses so Awesome?

Well, apart from the mesmerizing effects of the footage, it also points out that cannabis is just a plant. People get to explore a concept without prejudice, seeing that the footage blindsides your internal critic. The appeal level of the footage simply captivates your eyes and keeps you glued throughout the entire process.

Providing this type of cannabis footage opens the door for a wider conversation and makes cannabis more appealing to the general public.

While there aren’t that many cannabis hyperlapses available online today, we hope that more dispensaries follow suit with this method to help promote their strains. It’s much more entertaining than to simply read a strain review.

If the dispensaries can figure out how to turn that footage into dynamic footage (in the sense that the viewer can manipulate the angles, zooms and shots), you’ve got a recipe for success.

With immersive technology becoming ever more popular, having a virtual reality tour of your strains on your website might be the boost you’ve been looking for in terms of traffic and engagement. I can see stoner’s get baked and sit for hours playing with a cannabis hyperlapse in virtual space. Just think about it.

Hacking the Advertisement Scene

Another reason why this cannabis hyperlapse is so awesome is because it’s a powerful marketing trick that attracted millions of eyeballs. Seeing that cannabis cannot officially be used to promote on platforms such as Google and Facebook, using organic content marketing to leverage appeal and hack the system…is pure genius.

I’ve been working as a marketer for the past eight years and as of now, the cannabis hyperlapse has been the most effective way to market marijuana…without having to spend that much on ad boosting.

In fact, I’m sure that the Oregon dispensary simply had to send a link to one of these major media sites such as “Now This”, and the rest was history.

I personally want to thank Erik Christiansen for making this a reality. It inspired me to strart working more on hyperlapses myself for me and my clients.

Of course, to get to the level of quality of Christiansen, you’d need some pro gear and a natural eye, but it’s something that everyone of us can do without having to spend too much. Your phone has the option to make simply hyperlapses right now.

It’s crazy to think that anyone with enough imagination can make hyperlapses that appeal to a larger marketplace. Dispensaries and other cannabis businesses should take heed at this genius marketing strategy…it might be the way for you to break into a wider market without breaking the bank.
