CBD or (Cannabidiol) oil has come forth as a therapeutic agent, whereby its consumption is said to benefit patients in a variety of disciplines. Its consumption has risen in recent years due to individuals becoming aware of the said benefits. Unlike THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is not a psychoactive. It won’t affect the state of mind of the person who consumes it. It does however, appear to offer the person consuming it significant changes in their body with a list of medicinal benefits.
An increasing number of people believe that CBD offers a more natural form of pain relief than your typical over the counter methods. One study that was published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine found when testing CBD on mice and rats that it significantly reduced pain and chronic inflammation. Further studies have also investigated the possibility of CBD being used to treat such things as:
- Quitting smoking/Drug withdrawals
- Epilepsy & Mental health disorders
- Anxiety Disorders
- Acne
- Alzheimer’s
- Cancers
- Diabetes
It does have to be said that many of these studies are relatively new, and further evidence will be required to know the full benefits that CBD could potentially offer.
CBD can be consumed in different variations which can be adopted, to suit the individual’s requirement, acting as an added benefit in comparison to other methods. However, a point to be noted here is that the manner in which CBD is consumed has an effect upon how long it will take for it to work and create the desired effects. Though admittedly, there are other factors which affect the time in which CBD becomes effective. This includes the administered dosage along with the type of condition for which you want to use it for. Accordingly, there are three main ways in which CBD be consumed, which are mentioned below;
- Topical Application
- Oral Application
- Vaping
Topical Application
A common method of using CBD , topical application involves applying the CBD product such as a balm or a cream directly upon the skin, on the affected area. Such products are absorbed through the skin, these can provide isolated pain and inflammation relief as well as provide treatment for a range of skin conditions. The balm or cream are applied directly upon the affected area, allowing for a more concentrated therapeutic treatment in comparison to the other available methods of consumption.
However, the method of topical application is one of the more slower methods, with effects being felt anywhere between an hour or longer from when it was first applied. The upside here is that the effects can last for more than five hours after having being first applied, thus providing pain relief for a longer period or comparatively minimizing the effects of the skin condition.
Oral Application
One of the most common ways to consume CBD comes in the form of oral application or ingesting CBD orally, which is usually carried out via CBD capsules, or putting CBD oil in food or beverages. The time it takes to be effective depends upon certain factors which include the time it has been since you last consumed food and the quantity of CBD which you have consumed.
This method is considered to be one of the slowest where it can take anywhere between twenty minutes to two hours for the desired effects to be felt with the effects being felt for up to four to six hours after they have begun.
Vaping
The fastest administration method comes in the form of vaping, or CBD being consumed via vaporizing it. The CBD enters into your lungs directly, diffusing straight into your bloodstream thereby entering your circulation faster, making it the fastest way to consume CBD to generate its desired effects. This can be administered through a vaporizer or a vape pen, with CBD vape oil being utilized in the process, the effects of which last for some hours. Vaping allows the consumer to have both instant access to their CBD oil as well as a faster method of consumption.
Conclusion
Now that you are aware of the ways to consume CBD, a question arises as to which method of consumption should you choose to consume it. Based on the aforementioned information, the chosen method of administration of CBD is dependent upon a number of factors including the time in which you want the effects to be felt (vaping being the quickest and topical application being the slowest) and the availability of CBD products. Therefore, within whatever time frame you require the effects of CBD to be felt along with your convenience in getting the specific CBD product, choose the method of consumption accordingly.
However, prior to consuming CBD as a medicinal or a therapeutic agent, a doctor or physician ought to be consulted, to ensure optimum health.
