Everyone loves a good candy once in a while, or… more often than usual. While these are usually reserved for kids, there’s nothing wrong if adults enjoy the occasional lollipop – especially if it’s infused with good old cannabis.
Lollipops are just one of those “happy foods”… they make you nostalgic for childhood, they’re easy to eat, and they’re super tasty too. With this infused recipe, you can make your own cannalollies right at home. They’re great for medicating discreetly and give off just that perfect buzz.
What To Know
Making candy might seem a little overwhelming, especially if you have no background. But they’re actually easy to make, I won’t be surprised if you start making them more often. The most important thing to focus on when making cannabis lollipops is the temperature. You’ll need to be sharp and keep a watchful eye on the thermometer throughout the entire candy-making process.
In candy making, there’s a concept known as the Hard Crack Stage, which means that you must heat certain ingredients to as much as 300 Fahrenheit, then remove it from heat. Once you reach this temperature, this is what makes your candy hard. It can be a little challenging making cannabis-infused lollipops because you need to let it cool at 250 Fahrenheit; this way you can still keep all the healing properties of the plant.
Clean-ups can also be quite tricky; making lollipops means you’ll likely have several candy trails all over your counter and equipment but all you need to do is wait until it hardens up then you can remove and eat it. It’s highly recommended to make your lollipops in a non-stick surface if possible, making cleaning up so much easier. Placing your lollipop molds on top of parchment paper will make it easier to clean up.
To make your cannabis lollipops you will need a cannabis tincture. When using an alcohol-based tincture, stay away from the heat source when you mix it into the lollipop mixture since the alcohol, when exposed to the heat, can cause a fire.
You’ll also need hard candy or lollipop molds; here are some links to excellent silicone molds you can use:
Crystallove 12-Capacity Silicone Mold
Baker Depot Silicone Lollipop Mold
Flower, Star, and Spiral Lollipop Mold
You will also need a quality candy thermometer and lollipop sticks.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup organic sugar
¼ cup filtered water
½ cup organic light corn syrup
1 teaspoon organic flavor of your choice, such as orange, strawberry, grape, or lemon
2-3 teaspoons of cannabis tincture
Method:
In a medium saucepan, toss in the sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Cook over medium heat.
Gently stir until the sugar has been completely dissolved.
Once the heat reaches boiling point, add in the candy thermometer. Stop sirring until the mixture begins to boil.
Once your candy thermometer reads 300 Fahrenheit, remove the saucepan from the heat immediately but keep your thermometer in.
Once the temperature goes down to 250 Fahrenheit, add in the organic flavoring of your choice and the cannabis tincture.
Pour the lollipop mixture into the molds.
Let it cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Store the mold in an airtight container.
Keep In Mind
Edibles are not only delicious but also make excellent medications for a number of conditions including inflammation, chronic pain, muscle spasms, nausea, insomnia, autoimmune disorders, conditions afflicting the nervous system and more. Edibles, such as these healthy cannabis lollipops, are also ideal for patients who suffer from gastrointestinal conditions such as Crohn’s Disease.
However, keep in mind that ingesting cannabis by way of edibles will have a stronger and longer-lasting effect compared to smoking the stuff. Many first-time users are blindsided when eating edibles for the first time, so use sparingly – don’t go crazy eating several lollipops at once.
