HighSpeed Delivery: A Startup That Lets You Order Juice and Weed

Juice that costs $55 might initially sound like highway robbery, but wait until you see what’s in the package. A legal loophole is letting a small startup thrive. The law says that while it’s illegal to sell pot, it still remains legal to gift or donate it. The ondemand startup, HighSpeed Delivery (http://www.tryhighspeed.com), was founded by 25-year old David Umeh, who was looking for a creative way to enter the marijuana business legally. It’s fair enough to say that he’s found it. He formed the idea of beginning a pot-based startup business after witnessing several friends experience law enforcement issues on the drug.
According to the DC law known as Initiative 71, individuals over 21 can possess 2 ounces of pot and transfer one ounce to another without payment as long as the other person is also over 21 years of age. The loophole here lies in the fact that it permits people to give “gifts” or “donations” because technically, money still isn’t exchanged.
Juice With A Side Of Pot
The service lets you order cold-pressed juice and have it delivered to your doorstep, but you have the option of “donating” pot, which will increase the cost of your juice order from $11 to either $50 or $150 depending on how much weed you want. Technically, it’s a juice delivery service which means that it’s possible to actually order only juice. The cannabis is just a gift that comes on the side if you opt for the “love” or “lots of love” package.
According to Umeh, the amount of marijuana that they give buyers with each order varies at their discretion. Most buyers opt for the “love” option, which comes with around ⅛ ounce of pot. They source their marijuana from greenhouses who have gotten the government’s stamp of approval to operate under Initiative 71.
Your order arrives within 2 hours, with a delivery person handing you juice and your pot. As a buyer, it’s required for you to show your driver’s license since the billing address needs to match the information indicated on it.
Little Room To Grow Higher
HighSpeed Delivery originally began in Oakland, California since January 2016; although it relocated to Washington DC. It has already served hundreds of customers, but he currently isn’t planning on expanding much further just yet. He consulted with several lawyers prior to launching the business but he still needs some sort of approval from the authorities before considering expansion as he fully aware that he’s running a risky business.
