7 Of The Best Uses For Kief Dust
What are the Best Ways to use Cannabis Kief? from CannabisNet on Vimeo.
All that fine powder at that accumulates at the bottom of your grinder? That’s some of the most potent parts of your cannabis called kief! Also called pollen or dry sift, this glittery goldmine actually has many uses.
Kief is such a THC goldmine because it’s made up of a bunch of trichomes from the flower. Trichomes contain the highest concentration of cannabinoids in the entire plant, thus, all that powdery kief at the bottom of your grinder is precious stuff.
If you don’t know what to do with kief, here are some of the best ways to make use of this potent powder:
Add some kief to your pipe. This is the simplest, most fuss-free to enjoy your kief. It also elevates your smoking session to something more special because of the kief! All you need to do is sprinkle some on your bowl, spark once, and enjoy it all. Just don’t use too much kief or you might get a serious case of couch lock.
Dust some kief on your joint. Another simple way of consuming kief is by dusting some on to your joint. This is a little more messy than using it on a bowl, but it’s just as fun. Simply mix it into the bud before you roll, so that the kief fits nicely in, then wrap it up and toke!
Make some hash. If you have enough kief, you can make some homemade hash although it won’t be the best quality. You’ll need an iron and a piece of parchment paper – hair straighteners work best. Start by folding the parchment paper, then add the kief inside it. Use the iron to press down evenly on the fold, but don’t leave the iron on too long or you’ll end up burning the parchment paper. Now you can store your hash for future use or enjoy immediately.
Make moonrocks. If you want to use your kief as a magic carpet ride to the cosmos, making some moonrocks is the way. Moonrocks has a reputation of being one of the most potent methods of enjoying cannabis. To make moonrocks, you’ll need some cannabis or hash oil, regular bud, and fresh kief:
Method:
Drop a nug of bud into the oil. Use tweezers to very gently turn it over to ensure that the entire nug is evenly coated in oil.
Use the tweezers again to pick up the nug, then set it in the kief. Gently roll it around the kief so that it’s fully covered.
Set the moonrock aside to dry. Once dry, break off a piece and drop it on your bowl, light up, and reach for the stars.
Cook with kief! You can make some potent edibles with kief; in fact, it makes for excellent flavor and you’ll only need ½ to 1/3 less material than flower. You can also make the recipe more potent by mixing kief with bud. However, remember that you’ll also need to decarboxylate the kief before using it to cook just like with flower, or it won’t get you high at all. The other option is to also make cannabutter with kief, then use it as you would with regular butter. You could enjoy it in something as simple as toast with cannabutter, or it could be added to your favorite baked and cooked recipes.
Wake and bake with kief. Sprinkle some kief into your morning coffee, provided that it’s boiling hot. This will only work on hot drinks so don’t waste precious kief in iced or cold coffee. The heat will activate the THCA to THC, as well as the other cannabinoids. You’ll soon feel a buzz after around half an hour. This is a different way of getting high from your coffee, but it isn’t as strong as eating pies or cakes.
Use pollen pressing containers to pack it for storage. If you’ve found yourself with a lot of kief but aren’t sure what to do with it, just keep it for the meantime using pollen pressing containers. These are small containers made out of metal that create pressure and screw on both sides, creating little cupcakes out of the kief. You’ll need at least ¼ a gram of keif to use pollen pressing containers.
