The Reverse Bong – DIY Sploof
First of all, there are many people who don’t know what a Sploof is. A Sploof is a device that you use to reduce the smell of the smoke when you’re smoking weed. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, just think of a Smoke Buddy. That is a sploof. It’s a filter, nothing more and nothing less.
Now, previously I did speak about making the “Smoke Homie” which is my ghetto version of a Smoke Buddy, however today I’m going to be talking about a device that my significant other created when her Smoke Buddy stopped working. I’m talking about the “Reverse Bong” of course.
At first, when she told me she made a Reverse Bong I was trying to wrap my mind around what that could mean. It wasn’t until I saw it and tested it out that I decided that this must be shared with the rest of the stoner world. I believe she found the design somewhere on Reddit and decided to make it. So, today I’m going to share with you how to make a reverse bong or what some call the “Super Sploof!”
The process of assembling the reverse bong is quite simple. Essentially you’re going to construct a bong like you normally would. If you need specifics you can check out my “How to Make a Gravity Bong” tutorial which comes accompanied with a video.
For those too lazy to actually go check out the blog on the gravity bong, here’s the quick rundown.
Make a hole in the side of the plastic bottle large enough for a pen to fit snuggly.
Take the inside of the pen, you know like those BIC Pens that has a hollow center. Remove the ink from the pen and only insert the hollow part of the pen. If the bottom of the shaft is blocked, simply unblock it. It needs to be similar to a straw.
Fill the bottle with Fabric Softener below the hole where the pen is lodged. If you over-fill it on this step you’ll spill fabric softener.
Take the paper towel and cover the top part of the bottle. The part where you usually drink from and fasten it with an elastic band. You can also spray some Febreeze on the paper towel to increase the non-smelliness.
How to use the Reverse Bong
Using it is quite simple. All you have to do is take a toke like normal from a pipe or whatever smoking device you are using, then simply blow into the “pen” side of the bong. This is why it’s called the reverse bong. You’ll see it bubble, you’ll see it toil…and the smoke that escapes from the top (where the paper towel is) will smell like fabric softener.
And that is how simple it is!
The beautiful thing about this DIY Sploof is that it lasts a lot longer than a Smoke Buddy and it’s reusable. If the fabric softener stops “softening” the smoke, then simply pour it out and refill it. However, we’ve been using our home made sploof for about a month now without having to refill anything.
Why use the Reverse Bong Sploof?
There are numerous reasons why people use these devices. When you’re ‘not allowed’ by an authority figure, whether it’s your parents, landlord or whoever…then the sploof is an obvious choice. This will mask the fact that you enjoy a good toke every now and then.
This device is made for discretion. It allows you to toke up without having the entire neighborhood smell your dankness.
I know one thing, if I had this when I was a teenager I would have greatly reduced the frequency of me getting busted by my parents. Furthermore, the smoke actually smells nice. It’s almost like you are your own incense burner, except you burn weed.
The Reverse Bong is such a simple device it baffles me to think that only after more than twenty years of smoking reefer I discovered this marvel. I am now in the experimentation phase where I’ll see if I can make the sploof smaller and just as functional. This will allow me to take it with me to places because as it is right now; walking around with the current model of the sploof will surely attract eyeballs.
Once I have modified it to a “traveler size” I’ll let you guys know about it. For now, let me know in the comment section what sploofs you created and how you mask the smell of weed when you’re smoking. Until next time…happy toking!
