Micro-Dosing – Why Bother?

Microdosing Marijuana - What is the Point? from CannabisNet on Vimeo.

Much has been said on this topic, or has it? Not too long ago the concept of being baked all had to do with smoking as much as you could to have a “grandiose high” with the “gang.” But as it has been said before, it is a different ball game now. Needless to say you will always have your regular stoners that to get baked 24/7 but there is a different crowd out there that treats weed rather like a connoisseur would treat a good wine.

In this article we’re going to be covering the aspects of “micro-dosing” with cannabis. While it’s not a common practice, it is something that some people are doing more of lately and I believe that it would be good for everyone to know a bit more on the subject matter.

To be clear, Micro Dosing typically means you’re taking a smaller dose of any particular substance. In the case of psychedelics, you’re taking about 1/10th of the actual dose. Similarly, you’ll take about 1/4th of the dose of cannabis. So let’s get into it shall we.

What happens when you are micro-dosing?

YOGA MICRODOSING

Instead of being completely baked, you feel calmer and relaxed and could even be more creative. The next question is how to know what dosage is enough? As we are totally different from one another, best is to keep close track of what and how is best for you. This might take some experimenting until you find that works best for you. There is obviously a difference between edibles and smoking. For some, just one puff after a long day is enough. Or a quarter of a brownie instead of a whole one would suffice.

Why bother with micro-dosing?

As more people are getting used to the idea of smoking weed in the open or having a cannabis-infused snack, the focus on the typical laid back stoner is gently changing. The before in-the-closet smokers are now coming out but don’t want to sacrifice their images and want to break the stereotypical idea the public generally has on stoners. They want to have the benefit of using marijuana but still would like to continue being productive and functional. I’m not saying that smoking a lot of marijuana will make you ‘less productive or functional’, I’m just saying that in many cases (if you smoke too much, you’re not going to want to do the tedious shit in life)

But why should you take less and why is it better?

MICRODOSING MARIJUANA

As micro-dosing is taking in marijuana in small and measured amounts, the idea is to get to a perfect level of THC where the active compounds work in the “background” as opposed to expressing itself fully.

What makes it even greater is when you are micro-dosing you can handle your day quite well without being noticeably high. Marijuana micro-dosing is normally ingested. Edibles make it easier to measure THC and a typical micro-dose is between 5 to 10 milligrams. We all know that too much of a cannabis-infused snack could have real hardcore effects, even to the stage of hallucinations. There are a few golden pointers to keep in mind when searching for the perfect micro-dose.

Go slow and Low. Start with a low dose of cannabis like 5 or 10 milligrams and wait a solid 2 hours before taking more. The digestive system acts slower to breaking down THC and once in your liver it is converted to 11-hydroxy-THC that is even more potent than the THC we get from smoking.

CANNABIS INFUSED FOOD

Homemade Cannabis Infused food should always be labelled. You wouldn’t want an unexpected member of the family of friends get into your marijuana edibles as the experience might not be as desirable as you would think. Be sure to keep it safely out of reach of children and pets.

Edibles combined with alcohol are not so cool. Smoking a joint and having a beer is very different from eating a brownie and swallowing it down with some booze. It could result in serious dizziness and nausea. Even and experienced user could experience a bad trip. Try not to mix alcohol with cannabis edibles, especially if you are planning to have a lot.

Eat a proper meal too as edibles on an empty stomach are more intense. It is advisable to eat healthy before taking your micro-dosage of THC.

Don’t operate heavy or delicate machinery and don’t drive home. It is better to be in the safe environment of your home if you want to indulge in a bit more.

MARIJUANA MEDICINE

It goes without saying that for medical users, micro-dosing is an excellent choice. It helps to achieve the benefits of marijuana for pain, inflammation or anxiety or whatever other reason. Doctors have found that patients using small amounts of cannabis had more sustainable results and were getting better that those who used higher dosages. One-hitters, vaporizers and small amount edibles make it much easier for a person in need of relief to have a full productive day without feeling heavy and foggy.

Again, notice that a proper micro-dose of cannabis is not the same for everyone. There are factors such as weight, age and tolerance that play a role and it is important to work on finding the appropriate dosage. For a medicinal user taking smaller dosages the optimum benefits are experienced over a longer time. The body also doesn’t build up such a tolerance to cannabis and an effectively productive life is possible.

It is easy to see though why micro-dosing is becoming a more popular way to consume cannabis.
