Organic Ways to Detox at Home

how to detox from cannabis

With the growing cannabis legalizations and its increasing medicinal use, you would believe that companies would no longer make it difficult for cannabis users to get and stay on jobs. This seems to not be the case as companies still carry out drug tests on their employees and even go as far as firing them if found to test positive for marijuana use. Although many states are seeking legislation to change these practices and such laws may soon be in place. Unfortunately, until such laws are passed, companies are still carrying out drug screenings and if one wants to get or stay on a job, it is best to get rid of weed quickly in your system before going for that screening.

There are two major ways in which companies carry out drug screenings, there is urine (urinalysis) and saliva tests. For many marijuana users, the saliva test is a safer bet compared to the urine test as there is a slight chance of the THC metabolites remaining in your system for about a week after use or possibly longer if you are a constant user.

This state of things has led to a need for ridding or detoxifying the body of any traces of THC. There are several "quick fixes" such as the popular detox drinks out there claiming to help fool the test. However, because of the gross inefficiencies associated with these methods detoxifying naturally seems to be the best option. Detoxification carried out via natural mediums can be achieved via different means which will be  talked about later in this article, so read on!

Why Detox?

Apart from a need to ensure your drug test doesn't come out positive, there are several other reasons why you might need to detox. For example, some might feel a need to take a break from marijuana use for some time due to the inability to feel its effects as much as they used to. This tolerance break is especially common in medicinal cannabis users although regular users also experience this. It is essentially necessary as not doing this could mean a need for the usage of more cannabis to get the same effect. This brings about the need for detox although those who embark on it could experience some side effects such as anxiety, irritability, insomnia and lack of appetite.

How to Detox

There are several ways of eliminating any traces of cannabis from your entire system with the most effective being complete abstinence from cannabis use. However, this could take a lot of time and the ways listed below are meant to help achieve the detoxing within a minimal amount of time.

Hydrotherapy

Water is a very efficient way of detoxing that can also be very effective for cannabis detox, it is advised to have alternating hot and cold showers for some time. This can be done by having a 60-second hot shower and then a 30-second cold shower about 3-5 times daily. This method is not only invigorating and stimulating, but it also helps stimulate lymphatic flow, metabolism, and circulation.

 Skin Brushing

This is an often-overlooked method of skincare that helps tone the skin, reduce cellulite, boost blood circulation and eliminate dead skin cells.

For effective dry skin brushing, use a loofah or a natural bristle brush. It is also important to press certain areas of the body such as the groin area, between the neck and the collarbone, the armpits and rib cage to induce the lymphatic flow after which the skin brushing can then begin in downward strokes. This should be done twice daily and with a natural bristle brush or a loofah to achieve an effective result.

Castor Oil

Known for its ability to improve the immune system and increasing blood circulation, Castor oil has been around for quite some time. To help with detoxing, rubbing over the skin especially in areas surrounding the liver and the colon and then putting a hot water bottle after covering with a towel will do the trick. This is because it is believed that this aids the contraction of the liver and intestines to stimulate the release of toxins.

Epsom Salt

Famous for its superb ability to heal injuries discovered about 400 years ago in the town it was named after, Epsom salt is said to be also good for drawing toxins out of the body, relieving sore muscles and improving relaxation. A soak in a bath with two cups of the salt in your bath water is enough to achieve an optimal result.

Apple Cider Vinegar

While it is not a fast way of achieving results, apple cider vinegar is a potent means of detoxing. It gradually eliminates the THC metabolites in your body fat and urine to give you an effective change within some time.

Bottom Line

In addition to the methods listed above, increasing your water and fiber intake also goes a long way in achieving an effective detox. Asides the obvious benefits already known about detoxing, it should be noted that detoxing can also help in improving mood, energy and the overall wellbeing of the body.
