How To Make Canna Caps

What are Cannacaps or Cannabis Capsules? from CannabisNet on Vimeo.

Taking your greens in capsule form is a surefire way to get a good high without having to smoke it.

Cannabis capsules might be an unusual way to get stoned, but it doesn’t have to be restricted to marijuana patients who aren’t advised to smoke it to enjoy its health benefits. You can also enjoy the wonders of “canna caps”, as it’s fondly referred to. Getting a high from capsule doses will not only give you an enjoyable hit but it can also be used to treat pain, anxiety, insomnia, depression, cancer, and more. When marijuana is delivered to your body in capsule form, it enters the bloodstream quickly and can bring about a more potent hit when compared to smoking it. The high you’ll get from canna caps will also be longer-lasting, so it’s definitely a win-win situation.

Another bonus: caps are actually portable, and provide you with a discreet way of getting stoned.

Ask your local dispensary about available THC pills or capsules. You can also make your own at home using your favorite strain. While it isn’t as simple as stuffing bud into a capsule and swallowing it, there is definitely a science behind making your own canna caps but it will be worth it (and can be used to impress your friends).

Yields 12 capsules

Ingredients:

1 gram of hash OR 1.5 grams of weed

7 grams of extra virgin coconut oil

12 “00” sized gel caps which you can find in health stores or drug stores

Crock pot or slow cooker

Mixing bowl

Medium sized pan

Hot water

Teaspoon

Measuring spoons

Syringe

Grinder (if you are using weed)

Instructions:

1. Set your slow cooker to “low”, add the oil and hash or weed. Grind the weed to as much of a powdery form as possible before putting it in the slow cooker. Let it cook slowly: 2 hours for bud and 1 hour for hash.

2. Once the cooking time is over, let the oil and pot mixture cool down a little. If you fill the capsules while the mixture is hot, this will result in breakage. Try to work in a room temperature of around 25 degrees celsius which will keep the oil in liquid form.

3. Use a syringe to add equal amounts of the oil into the capsules.  Take one capsule for a moderate hit or to treat mild pain; more than 2 capsules will give you an extremely potent high and may lead to some nausea if you aren’t used to it. Tread carefully especially if you haven’t taken it in capsule form yet before.

Tips For Success:

 The size of the gel caps is important so don’t scrimp on this crucial step. If you get them a size too small it will be just be hard to get the cannabis inside it and you might just end up making a mess. On the other hand, if you get gel caps that are too big it’ll be hard to swallow and you don’t want that.

 I’d like to place an emphasis on the importance of choosing gel caps too, over the vegetarian variety. The reason for this is that the contents of the vegetarian capsule can leak if it’s exposed to oil.

 Extra virgin coconut oil is recommended although not a total necessity for the project.  The difference is that the extra virgin variety is perfect for cooking and a much healthier option. It doesn’t contain any of harmful fats like trans fat. Extra virgin coconut oil is excellent for digestion which enables more efficient digestion of the THC by your liver and the stomach which means that you’ll get a stronger hit.

 The instructions for temperature should be followed as closely as possible because the extraction of THC is what makes all the difference with good cannabis capsules. The right amount of heat is crucial in breaking down the resin and enabling the THC to bind to fat. If the temperature is too high, marijuana loses its potency because the THC ends up evaporating. Likewise, if the temperature is too low, you won’t be able to efficiently convert the cannabinoids into a psychoactive compound - in other words you won’t get a buzz.

 If you choose to use bud to make cannabis capsules make sure that you remove the seeds, stems, and pointed leaves.

 Don’t take the cannabis capsules on an empty stomach, or you’re just asking for trouble. Help your stomach prepare for digestion by munching on some fruit, a slice of pizza, or a sandwich. Doing so will enable your body to activate gastric juices that are necessary in helping the body efficiently break down the capsules once you have swallowed it.

Have you tried consuming or making your own cannabis capsules? What was your experience like?
