CBD-Infused Bed: The Wildest Product on the Market?
A considerable amount of research has gone into the use and benefit of the cannabis plant and the results of these studies have further led to the increasing legalization of the plant around the world. Though it is not yet fully legalized in some countries, there has been some acknowledgment of its benefits by people and this is largely due to the work of the non-psychoactive substance found in the plant known as CBD. This compound has been found to be very useful for several therapeutic and medicinal purposes and this has made it one of the most popular cannabis compounds. With the discovery of the usefulness of the CBD compound in the treatment of several illnesses and diseases such as anxiety, epilepsy seizures, depression, and severe pain, there has been an increase in its overall consumption and use. There are various innovative ways to which CBD could be put to use as it is being included in almost everything from snacks to beverages, from topicals to textiles to food and most recently beds. Yeah! You heard that right! Beds.
How Does This Work?
We all know CBD works by influencing some receptors such as the opioid and glycine receptors in the body which are responsible for regulating pain. The infusion of cannabis into beds was achieved through the use of a method call microencapsulation which calls for the encapsulation of hemp-derived CBD molecules in protective micro-coating to be infused or bonded into high-performance fabrics which are then layered into beds. To translate into a good experience for the consumer, the application of their body pressure through movement allows the micro-capsules to open overtime to release the CBD and get it absorbed by the body. This can then allow it to react with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) to help alleviate issues such as anxiety, pain, and stress. This micro-encapsulation process was carried out by a company called Devan who patented the method that is being sold to bedding companies.
The World’s First CBD Bed
The introduction of the CBD-infused bed was first done with the creation of the ZBD bed which is a memory foam that combines technology, comfort, and the CBD compound into its production. It is infused with CBD oil in a micro-encapsulated form to be released little by little overtime to provide the best sleep experience while enhancing your wellness. It is said to be capable of providing support, responding to temperature, and minimizing movement with three layers of bedding. It is mainly targeted at those who have issues with sleep such as people experiencing anxiety, stress, pain, and restlessness, or low quality sleep. With this bed, ZBD offers its customers a comfortable and therapeutic night rest by infusing the oil on their skins slowly for the entire lifespan of the mattress which is about 10 years. The bed itself contains about 12 grams of microcapsules with each microcapsule containing 48mg of CBD per square meter.
Other CBD Beds and Bedding Products
Other major bedding companies have begun coming up with their designs which include the use of hemp as fabric coverings for the bed and the inner layers infused with CBD oil that will be circulated through the bed when body pressure is applied. Most of these beds are made up of foam and washable bed covers offering you the ability to wash the bed cover several times in its life span to get rid of germs and bacteria that may have accrued over time.
Therapedic, one of the biggest bedding producers has introduced its variation called the B-calm line which applies the methods listed above into its mattresses and covers to offer an effective therapeutic experience to their customers. Paramount sleep, another bedding company also integrated this in their ‘Nature’s Spa’ mattress which releases the CBD into your immediate surrounding thus allowing you to inhale it as well without any adverse effects. Naturally, for most CBD products, they should not contain more than 0.3% of THC which is what most of these products contain which means that you will not be at risk of intoxication or addiction if you use them. Also, a company called CannaBeds is pushing out its hemp mattress line made from gel memory foam in addition to some pillow products. Other companies are now taking up the challenge and are set to change the way we sleep by either creating their bed lines or producing other bedding and home use fabrics such as bed sheets, pillows, sleepwear, and other textiles. What this means is that the fabric application of CBD is soon to take center stage in the cannabis industry as we eagerly look forward to more innovations. These are exciting times for the cannabis industry!
