Is Cannabis-Infused Clothing Really Happening?
It is already widely accepted that Cannabis is far more than just lighting it up and smoking a joint. It is also true that for years now, the image of the marijuana leaf was imprinted on all sorts of clothing like t-shirts, shirts, leggings, and headband, to name a few. Everyone who notices the marijuana leaf knows exactly what it stands for. But now, this multi-usable plant is taking it a step further. It is not just available as an imprint on fabric but also infused inside of the fabric.
Say What Now?
It is not unknown in the healthcare world to find medical impregnated dressings and gauzes. It is normally interwoven into the material with different compounds to dress wounds or relieve pain. Cannabis companies are not standing back and are developing CBD-infused dressings to attend to the many needs out there. This is based on the technology of creating a CBD pain patch. It works by putting a sticker-like patch on the area needed where CBD would be absorbed by the skin.
But innovatively, they are breaking into new areas. They don´t limit themselves to only dressings and gauzes but also develop CBD-infused clothing. The way to do this is to embed the CBD into compatible fibers. In a word, it is changing the game plan in a very creative way.
With the Focus on Sports-clothing
It all started with the company Devan Chemicals that launched Cannabidiol (CBD) fabric treatment in Frankfurt recently. They included CBD into their R-vital range of microencapsulated active ingredients. They already have Aloe Vera, Q10, and Vitamin E as part of their package. Not soon thereafter, as recent as 2019, a company named Acabada ProActiveWear introduced the first CBD-infused activewear on the market. The idea is to offer luxurious innovative clothes for women. The company is based in New York, but the clothing gets made in Portugal.
Acabada ProActiveWear decided to turn their vision to women´s clothing like leggings, tank tops, bodysuits, shorts, and sport´s bras. The motive is to promote healing and relaxation after a workout session. It could be used after exercise, but also during exercise.
How Does it Work?
While doing exercises, we are prone to hurt ourselves. Especially when we don´t warm up correctly or do exercises with a lingering injury. In order to promote a faster healing time, the activewear is infused with 25 grams of the purest form of CBD (99.9 percent pure CBD). According to the company, the clothes could be worn again and again. It can withstand 40 high-intensity wash cycles. There is even the option to recycle the clothes after it is worn-out. Acabada offers an upcycling program for worn out products to be replenished.
The hemp-derived CBD microscopic droplets have no THC content and get skillfully integrated into quality high-performance fabrics. This process is called microencapsulation. By using the Devan´s patented textile finishing therapy, the microcapsules are strategically placed into the fabric. It is perfectly aligned with the muscle group intended for and opens up with friction between the fabric and the skin. The skin absorbs the opened-up CBD molecules and interacts with the endocannabinoid system to bring relief to the injured and inflamed area.
Medical Upgraded Dressings
Medicinal fiber-based material is also very prone to cannabidiol infusion. At the moment the company Integumen PLC is in the process to develop a CBD-infused gauzed to be used in the medical world. It could be an amazing breakthrough for emergency care. CBD is very good for reducing inflammation and pain. It would be proactive to bring immediate relief after inflicted trauma and surgery.
CBD-infused gauzes will be very beneficiary for patients with open wounds or suffering from burning wounds. Apart from acting as a pain reliever, it would also start with the healing process. It also acts as a coagulant.
How Does CBD Topically Benefit Us?
CBD is very fast acting and therefor excellent for pain relief and inflammation. At the moment, for a faster effect, people use CBD under the tongue to bring fast relief. Some prefer a slower longer-lasting effect and take their CBD as and CBD-Infused edible. When CBD gets taken as an edible or orally, it gets broken down by the digestive system.
On the skin, it works differently. The skin has its own endocannabinoid system and when CBD-infused clothes or ointments are used, through transdermal administration, only the desired local area gets affected. This makes it specifically desirable for patients suffering from specific wounds or traumas.
Because it gets absorbed by the skin, it doesn´t have to go through the digestive system and the effect is immediate. This makes it very acceptable to be used as an aid for muscle trauma and sports injuries.
Closing Thoughts
This innovative breakthrough invention of creating CBD-Infused clothing should be opened with wide arms. At the moment the focus point is mainly for women, but I am sure the door is not closed, and other inventions are soon to follow.
