Hemp Milk Hits Perth Shelves

Hemp milk has landed on the shelves of Perth’s health shops.

The milk, which is made from the seeds of the cannabis sativa plant, is packed with nutrients. As reported by 9 News Perth, the milk, available in Refresh Juice, is made with organic hemp hearts, local Australian sea salt, and date paste all mixed together with water in a blender. The mixture is strained through a fine mesh bag, and the result is a nutty, creamy hemp milk.

Hemp milk is the newest non-dairy milk to hit the market, alongside almond, coconut, and rice milk. With 33% protein, a high amount of omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, magnesium, potassium, and calcium. The hemp seeds are imported from the United States, because currently it’s still a relatively new product in the country as it was only a few months ago when Food Standards Australia lifted bans on human consumption.

Liam O’Neill of Refresh Juice says that the hemp milk can be used in the same way that cow’s milk and soy milk are used.

And nope, drinking this milk won’t get you high. Whatever minute traces of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) it has, isn’t enough to get you high.

Perth Now has also just reported that Kakulas Brothers in Northbridge, a popular fresh-foods shop, has just recently added the hemp milk from Refresh Juice into their inventory. According to them, the product has been “flying off the shelves.”

“A lot of people who are vegans and vegetarians are loving it,” says Evan Kakulas, the shop’s co-owner.

So could this new hemp milk be the world’s newest superfood?

Anti-Anxiety Cannabis Milk In London

An anti-anxiety cannabis milk hit the shelves in London recently as well.

The product, called Relax, is the brainchild of consultant Michael Isted, who is also a psychotherapist. Relax is being served at London’s organic food shop Rawligion, and it is the UK’s first ever beverage that contains hemp extract. The other ingredients are dates, cashews, vanilla, coconut oil, CBD oil, hemp seeds, and water. The key ingredient for the product is CBD oil, whose anxiety-fighting properties are well-documented.

Relax uses a pure oil from LoveHemp, UK suppliers of CBD oil. It contains no THC either, so it won’t get you high.

Benefits of Hemp Milk

Hemp milk may not be as popular as soy or almond milk, but it’s a vegan’s dream drink – or anyone who wants to enjoy the health benefits of these superfoods. Hemp seeds are inaccurately linked with cannabis, and there’s still a lot of work to do in terms of educating people about the differences and the taste of these products.

Hemp milk is particularly beneficial for people with lactose intolerance as well, since it’s much easier to digest.

The health benefits of hemp milk include:

Low in calories: A cup of hemp milk only contains 140 calories.

Calcium content: A cup of hemp milk already contains 500 milligrams of calcium, which is half the required daily allowance for adults.

Vitamins: Hemp milk is a potent source of B vitamins including thiamin and riboflavin, which are essential for helping the body convert food into energy. A cup of hemp milk also provides you with a quarter of the 2.4 micrograms of vitamin B12 that your body needs daily for producing red blood cells. It also contains vitamin D, which helps the body efficiently absorb calcium.

Protein: A cup of hemp milk contains 3 grams of protein.

Magnesium: Hemp milk is an excellent source of magnesium, which the body needs to improve and maintain healthy functioning of the nerves and muscles. It also helps keep the bones healthy, transport calcium throughout the body, and supports heart health.

In the United States, hemp milk can be made or purchased in different flavors including chocolate and vanilla. However, if you want to reap the benefits of hemp milk while minimizing your sugar intake, you may want to stay away from the flavored or sweetened versions especially if you’re trying to prevent diabetes.

Plain hemp milk doesn’t have any cholesterol, sugar, gluten, or soy. For this reason, many people prefer using hemp milk because it’s a natural and delicious source of essential nutrients.
