Few foods have been worshipped as much as the avocado toast has over the last few years. In fact, you’ll probably see a photo of at least one avocado toast a week on your Instagram feed.

This humble snack is rich in nutrients, and is loved by foodies, nutritionists, and even celebrities. Everyone loves avocado toast, and we don’t blame them. It can easily be made into anyone’s favorite snack or breakfast food, with a few adjustments to customize it the way you like. Traditionally, simple avocado toast uses sliced or smashed avocado on toast, and seasoned with sea salt and olive oil. Some like to add lemon juice, red pepper flakes, a drizzle of honey, thinly sliced red onion, cayenne pepper, or even bacon bits.

No matter how you like your avocado toast, you’re likely eating it because you know that it’s nutritionally dense. Imagine all the health benefits of avocado combined with the health benefits of cannabis? Now, THAT sounds like a superfood breakfast to me.

But why is avocado toast so popular?

It’s simple

It’s delicious

It’s got a ton of health benefits

If you haven’t started eating cannabis-infused avo toast, this article has all the reasons why you should.

AVOCADO

Health Benefits of Avocado

Avocadoes are a nutritionally-dense food. The most abundant nutrients found in this fruit include Vitamin K, Vitamin C, folate, potassium, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin E. It also contains small amounts of other important minerals including magnesium, iron, copper, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, niacin, thiamine, and riboflavin.

Avocadoes have more potassium than bananas. Most people don’t realize that they have a potassium deficiency; this important nutrient is critical to ensuring that the body’s cells are performing optimally. Just 100 grams of avocadoes already contain 14% of the recommended daily allowance, while bananas only contain 10%.

Avocado is high in fat, but only the good fat. A majority of the calories in avocadoes are derived from fat, so it’s definitely one of the fattiest plant-based foods in the world. Most of the fat found in avocado is oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid that is also found in olive oil and responsible for most of its health benefits. Oleic acid helps fight inflammation and reduces the risk for cancer.

Avocado is a potent source of fiber, and eating enough avocadoes as well as other fiber-rich foods can help you lose weight, reduce spikes in blood sugar, and reduce your overall risk for a number of conditions.

Avocadoes can help lower triglycerides and cholesterol levels. These blood markers are known for increasing your risk of developing heart disease, the most common cause of death in the world.

In general, people who eat more avocadoes are healthier than those who don’t. Avocado consumers have a higher nutrient intake and are less likely to suffer from metabolic syndrome, which refers to a number of symptoms that are linked to an increased risk for diabetes and heart disease.

Avocado fat can help increase the bioavailability of nutrients in other plant foods. Consuming foods rich in nutrients isn’t enough; you also have to make sure that your body is primed to absorb most of the nutrients, a situation that can be manipulated by adding a few things to your diet. Studies show that adding avocado oil or avocado has been effective in increasing nutrient value of vegetables and other plant-based foods.

AVO TOAST

Recipe for Cannabis-Infused Avo Toast

Ingredients:

1 large ripe avocado (they tend to brown easily once you cut them, but you can prevent this by drizzling some lemon juice after you peel it so that the avocado stays fresh)

2 slices of your preferred whole-grain bread

2 teaspoons cannabutter

2 teaspoons lemon juice

salt and pepper to taste

Method

Toast the bread until they’re a crunchy golden brown.

Spread 1 teaspoon of cannabutter on each slice of bread.

Divide the avocado between the slices of toast your way; you may prefer to mash it up and mix it with the lemon juice, or slice them evenly.

Season with salt and pepper, serve.

Any remaining avocadoes can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days in a refrigerator.

Tip: Have a cup of coffee with your infused avocado toast – coffee and cannabis is a match made in heaven!

Enjoy!
