Boning While Stoning – Cannabis Smokers may have more Sex Study Finds

Cannabis Leads to More Sex Says New Medical Study from CannabisNet on Vimeo.

We’ve been told that “Marijuana lowers your sex drive” throughout the decades. The problem with the statement is that there really isn’t any science to back it up. Now, plastered all over the newsfeeds you’ll read titles like “Is Marijuana an Aphrodisiac” and other variations of the same premise.

This is because recently, Dr. Michael Eisenberg, an assistant professor of urology at Stanford University Medical Center. He published his findings in his latest study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine where they found the opposite to be true.

"Usually, people assume the more frequently you smoke, the worse it could be when it came to sex, but in fact, we learned the opposite was true," Eisenberg said.

The study utilized data from the US government’s National Survey of Family Growth where more than 28,000 women and 23,000 men were asked how often they had sex in the month leading up to the survey. Additionally, the survey included the question about cannabis frequency in consumption patterns spanning over a year prior to the survey.

Women who abstained from cannabis reported having sex six times on average during the past four weeks leading up to the survey, however, women who did use cannabis daily had sex 7.1 times on average.

Similarly, men who abstained from cannabis use said they had sex an average of 5.6 times in four weeks and men who used marijuana daily had sex 6.9 times on average.

So for starters, we know that women have more sex than men on average. So yes fellas, they are horny just like we are and according to this survey…even hornier than we are.  Some cannabis strains for sex can have a free floating and relaxing experience!

"We were surprised to see the positive association between users," Eisenberg said. "This was across the board: marital status, race, none of that mattered." The study focused on heterosexual sex, and it didn't explain why there might be a connection between sex and marijuana.

According to Eisenberg, past research showed in rodent models that cannabis generally increases arousal yet when it comes to smoking too much cannabis, there is a decreased sperm count. In other words, men would want to have sex at a higher frequency, but achieving orgasm could be more difficult.

Once more, this is splendid news for everyone involved. One could conclude that cannabis increases sexual arousal and will make the male last longer in bed.

Of course, we should be taking these studies with a grain of salt. There are many limiting factors that don’t allow us to paint a clear picture. For instance, of the people surveyed, there is no criteria for ‘amount used’, whether it was done before or after smoking marijuana and a number of other elements including tolerance, potency and so forth.

This is why it’s important to always be skeptical of every study concerning anything really. We don’t understand the methodology that goes into the drafting the results. Any one of those factors could sway the results significantly. Thus, while it does sound ‘sexy’ that weed makes you hornier and last longer in bed…it isn’t fact…but merely speculation or an educated guess.

Nonetheless, we should applaud Eisenberg for publishing these kinds of studies. Of course, we need to expand our frequency of cannabis studies in a wide range of applications. Currently, due to the illegal status of cannabis on a Federal level, there simply isn’t enough data available to draw definitive answers.

Yes, we do have in vitro studies, rodent models and a handful of human studies…yet we’re still very much in the dark about definitive science concerning the plant and its interaction with us. Additionally, seeing that every organism is unique…even if something is ‘true’ for one person, it might not be true for another.

For instance, if two people smoke a joint…they will experience it differently. The cannabinoids react differently each individual and thus making blanketed statements about the plant and “society” is erroneous at best.

The biggest problem we face however is the decades long red tape surrounding cannabis research. Fortunately, Sessions is “open” to the idea of granting more licenses for official cannabis studies and production, providing a wider sample pool of knowledge for us to pull from.

Nonetheless, we won’t get a clear picture of cannabis and the interaction with humanity until it is Federally legal. With 64% of Americans in favor of legalizing weed nationally, we might be getting those answers in the years to come.

As of now, we can only rely on personal experiences. I for one, have phenomenal sex while utterly baked. Hell, drop a bit of opium in the mix and you’re having a sex-fest that will last all night. It really comes down to understanding your own organism and utilizing it to your advantage.

The question I have for you is; “Cannabis – Does it make you have more sex?” Answer in the comments!
