The health benefits of consuming pure, natural honey has long been understood and studied. In fact, honey, which is the only edible food produced by an insect, has numerous health benefits. More people are adding a tablespoon or two as part of their daily health regimen for this very purpose.

Health Benefits of Honey

Honey has powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties, and it’s been used since ancient times for this very purpose. Ancient Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians have been documented to have used honey for its healing properties as early as 384 BC. Despite being so simple, honey is used the world over for its medicinal properties. It’s also an excellent natural alternative to sugar, which contains zero health benefits.

Honey contains important vitamins and nutrients including amino acids, calcium, sodium chlorine, iron, phosphate, magnesium, and potassium. Its PH level borders towards acidic, at around 3.2 to 4.5 which enables it to effectively reduce the growth of bacteria. Honey is also a powerful antioxidant to combat the harmful effects of free radicals.

Other health benefits of honey include:

  1. Energy booster
  2. Memory booster
  3. Cough suppressant
  4. Prevents insomnia
  5. Treats dandruff
  6. Heals burns and scrapes
  7. Treats herpes outbreaks
  8. Moisturizes skin
  9. Treats acid reflux
  10. Strengthens the immune system
  11. Prevents cancer
  12. Good for hangovers
  13. Treats acne
  14. Increases libido
  15. Treats sinus

These are just some of the many conditions that honey can help heal. As you can see, it’s already incredibly healing in its own right but when you add cannabis to the mixture you can make yourself one helluva natural medicinal powerhouse.

How To Make A Cannabis Honey Tincture

The best part is that you don’t have to shell out a ton of money or travel halfway around the world just to access this amazing tincture. You can make it right at home, it’s easy, and you only need a few products.

You can even make a big batch and freeze it for future use. However, don’t forget to decarboxylate your cannabis first. Otherwise the THCA won’t be converted into THC. The process is simple and short, and is critical before you infuse honey with cannabis. However if you’re looking for a tincture that won’t give you a high at all, then you can forego the decarboxylation process.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 or 2 oz. cannabis buds
  • Double-layered cheesecloth
  • Oven
  • Baking dish
  • Raw, organic honey

  1. Preheat oven to 240degrees.
  2. Spread the buds onto the baking dish (or baking sheet)
  3. Cover with a baking sheet; bake for 1 hour.
  4. Once done, allow the buds to cool by storing them in an airtight container. Use a knife or old credit card to scrape up any leftover keif on the baking dish.
  5. Use the cheesecloth to wrap the decarboxylated cannabis, then tie it together using a string or rubber band
  6. Place it in a slow cooker or crockpot, then add up to 5 pounds of honey in a container.
  7. Put the slow cooker on low heat; the honey might simmer but don’t let it come to a boil. Prevent this from happening by regularly checking on the tincture and reducing the heat if it gets too hot.
  8. Let the slow cooker heat for 4 or up to 8 hours. Leave the cheesecloth overnight, or until cool.
  9. Pour honey into a sterilized glass container, then refrigerate or freeze.

What You Can Do With Cannahoney

Cannahoney is an extremely versatile addition to any kitchen. It can be used on teas, smoothies, and even coffee. The best part is that it will last a long time and won’t go bad – because honey is naturally a preservative.

Cannahoney can also be added onto spreads and dips, which makes for a delicious appetizer when you’re entertaining with edibles. It can also be added into a honey mustard salad dressing recipe, poured onto dessert, made into sauce for barbecues and roasted chickens, added directly onto pizza, or eaten with cheese.
