5 Easy Ways To Reset Your Health After A Long Weekend
The sun is out - and, well, do we really need another excuse to enjoy good weather? Summer this year has been brutal. We understand that everyone wants to wear as little as possible and drink cold beer and wine in the outdoors paired with your favorite strain.
If you feel like you’ve indulged too much this Labor Day weekend, or for the whole summer at that, here are a few easy ways to use your favorite herb to reset your health – and feel better this fall:
- Hydrate: Drink loads of water, green tea, smoothies, and juice cannabis to detox and reinvigorate you from the inside out. Just like other green leafy vegetables, cannabis also contains essential nutrients such as calcium, iron, and fiber. All these nutrients can help heal your body without getting you high. You can even mix raw cannabis into the ingredients of your favorite green smoothie or shake, while drinking water consciously throughout the day to reduce inflammation from any junk you’ve been eating while preventing build up of toxins that can contribute to diseases.
- Get some shut eye: Using your favorite indica strain can help you get some decent, quality sleep at night. Getting good hours of sleep is tantamount to your emotional wellbeing and mental productivity; in other words, helps make you feel good. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute says that a good night’s rest helps you improve your learning skills, decision-making skills, creativity, and attention span. Losing a few hours of sleep over a weekend can contribute over time, and the effects can build up. A 2015 study conducted by the National Sleep Foundation revealed that the hours of sleep that you need each night depends largely on your age as well as genetic makeup. For school-aged children, they need at least 9 hours of sleep, teenagers can function well with 8, but adults need at least 7 to 9 hours of shut eye. But with all the stress and anxiety most of us are exposed to, falling and staying asleep can be a challenge that cannabis can help with.
- Go on a fast: Intermittent fasting has been one of the most underrated but important health discoveries of the decade. While it’s widely used to promote weight loss, regular intermittent fasting can also help effectively with detoxification as well as the prevention of many illnesses including diabetes, inflammation, oxidative stress, heart disease, and even cancer. Cannabis is used by many to aid with their fasting methods, and it’s especially useful if you’re trying to recover from a weekend of several days of indulging in your favorite food and alcohol. Cannabis helps fasting by making it more tolerable, helping you fall asleep even if you have an empty stomach, and get on track to focus on your tasks upon waking the next day. Best of all, you’ll also get all the health benefits of cannabis to support your system even while fasting.
- Munch on dark chocolate and other healthy edibles: It’s not realistic to say you’ll never actually touch another pie again. Instead, stock up on healthy doses of edibles such as cannabis-infused dark chocolate to get some nutrients in even while you’re getting your daily fix of some sugar (just make sure to get those that are at least 70% dark cacao). Dark chocolates are a fantastic source of minerals, nutrients, antioxidants, and help to protect your heart. Have a square after a meal – depending on how much THC it contains – to help get you through your cravings without touching the unhealthy stuff.
- Put your gym shoes on: There’s nothing quite like exercise paired with cannabis to help you sweat, detoxify, and reset your system. Both will boost your brain, enhance your cognitive ability, and promote a positive mood. Choosing aerobic exercises such as dancing, swimming, running, jogging, and cycling has been shown to increase the hippocampus of the brain, the area responsible for learning and verbal memory. Resistance training exercises, on the other hand, can help the brain develop new blood vessels. Additionally, regular exercise increases circulation which aids in the management of depression and anxiety – plus you get a double boost of these properties when you combine cannabis and exercise because mental illness is one of the things that cannabis works so well at fighting.
