How To Make Your Own Cannabis Moonrocks

Unless you’ve been living under a (moon)rock, you’ve already heard of moon rocks by now. Also referred to as the “caviar of weed” or “cannabis caviar”, moon rocks are among, if not THE, most potent form of weed you’ll ever come across in this life.

By definition, moon rocks are basically nuggets of weed that have been drenched in hash oil, followed by a generous sprinkling of kief. Each of these three primary ingredients are powerful on their own, so you can just imagine what it’s like to get high off one of these green nuggets. However, moon rocks aren’t for newbies or the faint-hearted: these treats are (rightfully) designed to cater to the needs of veteran stoners.

The average strength of a typical moon rock is around 50% THC, but of course it will depend on the strain, hash oil, and kief used. You can even come up with a moon rock that’s around 90% THC in potency if you use the right ingredient combination.  But getting as high as a kite isn’t the only effect you can achieve out of smoking a moon rock: it can also have medicinal properties if you tweak the ingredients used, such as by adding CBD oil which can offer therapeutic benefits for those suffering from anxiety, nausea, seizures, pain, and much more.

Because of the quality, quantity, and potency of the ingredients that go into making a moon rock, it’s not uncommon for these nuggets to sell as much as $1,000 per ounce. Yes, you read that right.

Let’s be honest: not everyone has $1,000 in spare change to spend on a moon rock. But that doesn’t mean that you’ll never get to try this amazing form of weed (unless you have a generous benefactor).

The other options for trying moon rocks are either producing all the ingredients needed at home, if you already grow your own pot; buying bud then making your own hash oil and kief; or buy bud, hash oil, and kief at a dispensary.

Regardless of which option you choose, I’ll be teaching you how to make your own moon rocks at home.

What You’ll Need:

  • Grinder
  • Kief
  • Trichomes
  • Silk screen or sift, to act as a kief catcher
  • Hash oil
  • Tweezers
  • Dropper
  • Small brush

  1. Use your fingers to gently break off a piece of bud. The more compact, the better.
  2. Use the dropper or a small brush to drizzle some hash oil, ensuring that the whole bud is covered (but not dripping).
  3. Use the tweezers to gently pick the oil-coated bud up, then drop it into the kief. Softly rotate the bud so that all sides have evenly been coated with kief.
  4. Place the bud aside to dry.
  5. Allow the nuggets to dry thoroughly before you use it.

How To Use Moon Rocks

Now that you have your own homemade moon rocks, it’s time to get the journey started by smoking them! Moon rocks can be used in the same way that you use regular pot, except that it’s way more potent.

You also have to be very careful about breaking up moon rocks so that none of the kief falls off; otherwise it will be a tragic waste! It’s best that you use a sharp knife to break moon rocks off instead. A knife can seamlessly chop moon rocks up so that you can use it in a joint, load it on a bowl, or a bubbler of your choice. In fact, moon rocks can also be used as an ingredient in making edibles.

Keep In Mind….

However you choose to use moon rocks is entirely up to you, but don’t act a fool and waste any part of it. Use every single part of the moon rock as possible since these things are so expensive, and you’ll want to make the most out of it. Think of moon rocks as a super potent dab – go slow first and increase your intake only once you’re sure that you can handle the high.

When moon rocks are consumed with the right dosage, it can give you the most memorable and flavorable high you never thought was possible.
