Essentials for the first-time smoker's kit
Marijuana Starter Kit - What is in Yours? from CannabisNet on Vimeo.
You just got your MMJ license, bought your first stash, did your research about what to expect once you get high, and you barely know how to roll a joint. Is that all you got? You can do better than that. Dispensaries today are chock-full of paraphernalia and equipment that every stoner should have in their kit.
Even if you’re just starting your marijuana habit (congratulations!!), you should have these essentials. These purchases are good investments and will make a big difference in improving your life as you consume the plant in many exciting ways. These tools will not only make it more convenient, but will also help you make the most out of them. You don’t need a hefty budget to buy these: many are readily available in drugstores and dispensaries for cheap.
Read up:
Proper storage: Without the right storage, the money you’ve invested in buying your bud will only go up in smoke. Cannabis is at risk for drying up and developing mold if it isn’t kept properly, which will also destroy the terpenes. Every user should always invest in the right kind of storage - and it doesn’t have to be expensive since there are several options out there to suit your budget.
Airtight glass containers are ideal, and these are easily found in hardware stores. Dispensaries also carry specialized glass containers for storing pot. Glass containers are great because they easily let you see how much pot you have, plus they come in all shapes and sizes. Glass containers should be kept in a cool, dark place to avoid light because this will dry out your pot and can ruin the flavor profile.
Silicone: More users are beginning to see the value of storing their cannabis in silicone containers which are available in a rainbow of colors.
Metal containers are also an effective alternative; if you have the cash to burn go for titanium because this metal will protect gas from leeching in. Metal protects from sunlight exposure. If you’re working on a small budget, metal tins that previously held candies can be repurposed into pot containers.
Note: No matter what, don’t ever store your cannabis in plastic or zip locks. Doing so will only make your stash dry out faster, and it will also leech harmful chemicals lurking in plastic, such as BPA.
Grinders: These nifty little tools will save you time and will also help make shredding the plant more effective for filling vaporizers or rolling into joints. Grinders come in all colors, shapes, and sizes although the most practical solution is to invest in a metal grinder. Metal varieties can keep their teeth sharp even with frequent use, and are also much easier to clean with just a little isopropyl alcohol.
Pokers and scrapers: Multipurpose pokers and scrapers don’t cost much but will come in handy for those who use pipes and vaporizers. Leftover burnt residue from your last smoke can leave an acidic taste that will only prevent you from enjoying the full flavor of any strain. Scrapers are also crucial in cleaning vaporizer chambers without damaging the tool. When you purchase a vaporizer, most of them already include the tools that you need for cleaning - but let’s face it, but losing things happens frequently to even the most seasoned stoner so it’s best to always be prepared with extras.
Lighter or torch: These tools will always come in handy for lighting up a joint, bong, pipe, bowl or vaporizer. If you prefer dabbing or concentrates, torches are more suitable than lighters. You can get any cheap lighter from a convenience store and it will work just fine.
Isopropyl alcohol: Concentrations of 91% or higher are more effective in cleaning cannabis residue. All you need to do is dunk the things you want to clean, like your pipe or grinder, into a resealable bag. Fill it up with enough isopropyl alcohol and let it soak for an hour or two. When you’re through, use a cotton bud soaked in alcohol to get to the hard-to-reach areas.
Other add ons:
Rolling machines: Best thing in your kit if you aren’t a pro roller
Pipe or bowl: Makes getting a quick hit or two easy
Eye drops: Helps reduce nasty bloodshot eyes that come with getting stoned
Air fresheners: Some strains have a really “loud” smell - avoid getting it traced back to you!
